The facts on the Gas Station List

Earlier this month Investigator Heather Catallo did a story on how the State checks gas stations for both quantity and quality.   Someone, or mulitple people, took state-issued the list from that story, added a false description on what the list shows, and is emailing it around.

Anyone who gets that email should consider it inaccurate, delete it, and not pass it along.

We have taken the list off our website to prevent further intentional or inadvertant missuse of that data.

I think the media should be more clear on their facts before posting something for the generaly public to get all up in a frenzy about.  What was NOT mentioned in the article on the TV or the web was that some of those stations were noted for GIVING AWAY too much gas per gallon.  Nice job Catallo!

Call your state reps.  The state sales tax on a gallon of gas is $0.24.  This is a cash cow for them!  If they wanted to provide reflief for the tax payers, this could be a good start.

$0.24 is nothing. Tax the oil companies. Take away this windfall profit and return it to those it was stolen from. It's called "redistribution of wealth". The government does it all the time. In fact they are doing it now as they give tax breaks to the big oil companies. They give our money to oil companies on top of all that we are already giving them. These punks should burn in eternal flames!!

I am a team member at one of the "targeted" stations. We have always met with the state inspections and have also met with compliance standards. The report hurt our reputation recently when we were involved in donating our facility and funds to the Relay for Life fundraiser...a motorist approached the Relay volunteers....The accusation was unfair and untrue. An investigation should be exactly that....a story based on facts rather than speculation or lies.

mike0050, if you tax the oil companies, don't you think they will just pass that cost along to us the consumer by raising the price of fuel even higher.  This is not the solution.  The solution is more efficient running engines and trying to find other fuel alternatives.  E85 is a joke.  It is distilled corn.  In order to distill something, you have to heat it up....  what do you think they use to heat up the corn to make it into ethanol?  Fossil fuel....  do your research and question news stories.  They are not always accurate!  Our saving grace will be hydrogen cells, or bio diesel.  But uless you are all willing to go back to using public transportation (which is a joke in Detroit) you better get used to being at the mercy of the Oil Companies like Exxon, Bp and etc.
