I sure hope the first order of business at the conference is a plan on how to kick Kilpatrick's *** out of city hall asap before he does more damage to the city's business climate.

We would like to know who the individuals are that are thinking of becoming leaders in our State.  We've had such a void of leadership in Michigan for many years now and it seems that we are falling apart.  WE WANT REAL LEADERS!!!

In a time of fiscal restraint how can it be justified to expend $ to go to Mackinac Island for a meeting? My guess is they are staying at THE GRAND-no small pricetag. At $25 round trip for the boat Xthe # going that too is an unneeded expense. People are struggling to choose between gas and food. A trip to mackinac for WHATEVER is NOT justified!!!

This week at Mackinac Island is just a fancy do nothing for big wigs who do nothing for the little man.   Everyone going to this outing is not "feeling the crunch at the pump or food prices", they all have it made because we the taxpayers at footing the bill.   How dare you rub it in our faces.   I think we should oust you all out and start from "scratch", things sure couldn't be any worse than they are now with the political poops we have in there now!!!!

How nice our politicians can go and enjoy themselves at a so called conference.  While we struggle to pay our taxes and heating, food, gas bills to go to work.  I really think it is time for a change.  All of government should go to part time, reduced benefits, be forced to join an HMO health insurance plan, have their wages cut in half.  Only after experiencing  the real life hard times  we do , they might be motivated to do what they were voted in for. To represent us and not line their pocket with perks and vacations.

I say we vote them all out of a job!!!!

 

I say the conference should be held in the worst run down slum in Detroit so the rich do nothing fat cats can see how the poor people live.  Then when the big wigs really see how bad Detroit is, maybe someone who actually cares about improving conditions in Detroit would actually get something done in detroit and someone would help the people instead of stuffing their fat cat stomachs with their 200 dollar meal tabs and all the booze they can drink.

While News 7 reporters are in Mackinaw with the "Mayor" of Detroit see if you can count the numbers of wasted Police security guards the isiot has brought with him at taxpayers expense, Then ask the honorable mayor how many he brought. The man better enjoy his final days as mayor wasting tax dollars, The gov will never have the balls or gall to boot him but the people just may have had enough.
Have a little fudge "BIG K" , you have left your stain on not only the people of Detroit but every one in Michigan,

I'm hoping that our state officials will discuss the urgency of unemployment extensions being put through.  I know it's not directly our state legislatures who vote on this but I'm bothered by the fact that there is so little communication letting us know where we're at. Does anyone have Carl Levin's phone number?  So many of us badly need some income to help supplement the money we are having to draw out from our retirement savings in order to live month to month, until we can find employment.  The money we set aside, the money the government will penalize us for using.  Have a great weekend all.  And Channel 7; don't insult us by letting us know that it's a mistake to spend money set aside in an IRA before its matured. Do you actually think most of us are spending our retirement funds for the heck of it?  And as for the adults living with their parents.  Come on, why bother to bring up the free loaders who won't grow up!  Tell that story during prosperous times.

In response to Laura56 who states that Michigan is in dire need of "REAL LEADERS", what we the voters need to do is quit slicing the pie down the middle. Each of us has to either Vote straight ticket Democrat or straight ticket Republican.  Our state is in a gridlock because we don't have enough people on either side to allow anything to get passed.  Gov. Graholm is stuck in the middle.  She doesn't have enough Democrats in office to give her the numbers to pass what we needs to get done.  The Democrats want one thing and the Republicans another.  So people, get off the fence and vote straight ticket.   If you believe that we're going to have a Dem for Pres. Let's let the Dem's control MI. Look at what the Republicans have done to and for this country over the past 7.5 years.  

The money being wasted for what????  You would think this state was in the money?  Where's the money for this little vacaton coming from - because that's all it is - a vacation that the taxpayers have to pay for.  Is anyone paying for their own way.  I would like to go up to Mackinac to the Grand Hotel, I have wanted to do that for the past 50 years but I cannot afford it because I have to pay for the politicians to have a vacation - yes, that's all it is - a vacation at the taxpayers expense.  For a state suffering the effects of economy like Mihcigan is at the moment, I do not understand how they can justify going up there and blowing more tax dollars.  I would like to know that the cost is?  And who is paying their own way?  We have plenty of office space in buildings in downtown Detroit.  How about meeting their instead?????

I think everyone should stay home and work and save some taxpayer money!!!!!!

This week's Mackinac Island political gathering is just that - one of several yearly opportunities for essentially the same crowd to make some news and schmooze, at either their company's expense or at our expense.  The enormous transportation, food, & lodging bill will far exceed any real benefit that any similar-sized group of ordinary citizens will ever receive as a result of their discussions.

Speak Up America's response to Laura56 was:  "Each of us has to either Vote straight ticket Democrat or straight ticket Republican."

There exists a Red gang (republican) and a Blue gang (democrat).  Sorry, but a  straight-ticket is an absolute vote for one of those two gangs (the Whole gang, including every one of their buddies/shills/spin-doctors/corporate-sponsors/...).  At both the state & federal levels, their colors are the only difference between them; they are both interested only in themselves and Power, no matter what they say or how they pander.

The Worst example of corporate ownership of Michigan's legislature is the insurance industry.  They're the ones who've hung the country's worst No-Fault law around our necks, and made it illegal for ordinary citizens to sue for practically any injury caused by someone else's negligence.  The insurance industry bought & paid-for both the democrats & republicans decades ago.  Do you want more of the same?

If you are seriously motivated to effect a Real change in the legislature, the ONLY option is to choose someone not affiliated with either party.  If we kick Both parties to the curb, we have a chance to elect a body that will have to decide what the REAL concerns of the "citizenry" are, and figure out how to address them.  They won't have time to constantly berate each other, or listen to the hordes of lobbyists who support and are glued-to the two major parties.

Political parasites, nothing more than high-priced dressed up panhandlers. Politics is not, nor has it ever been about helping people -- politics is about controlling people.

I'd like to know if this Junket is paid for by taxpayer monies.

Well, every one can see where there tax money is going this week, every one at the conference is  getting a free stay at the Grand Hotel, I am sure the Mayor is on another free vacation just like all the others.  Where are the body guards they are not seen with him at the  island, I guess he is only afraid of his own city that he lives in or they did not get a free hotel stay.  Maybe Steve wilson will ask him some time soon.
