Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

    I agree with this. I am a non-smoker. When I go out, I explicitly ask for a non-smoking area.

However, when I go to a bar or bowling alley, these are places that are havens for people who like to drink AND smoke. If people don't like it, don't go there... Or, maybe find people you know who are wealthy.. and open your own bar that DOESN'T ALLOW smoking. I don't think the government should be regulating things like that.

everyone wants everything to be a law nowadays. Geez.. what's next? you need to pass a bill to use the toilet? I mean.. really...

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Why ban smoking in resturants I have cronic broncitus and I smoke mine is always flared up be it gonna be thats my choice so make smoking and non smoking version of the same resturant.  Do the restuant industies realized how much $$$$$$ they will lose if people can't smoke while they eat. That  is all MI needs more cutbacks in spending in MI. I would rather cook at home and have my cig too. If your gonna ban smokin which is supposed to be my freedom maybe u lawmakers should bane a few more things while your at it like KILLING the babies (oh wait abortion that sound nicer) were living innocent beings unto there life is literally crushed and sucked out of them, or drinking at resturant maybe you should stopserving drinks at resturants to because they put everyone in danger once they leave that resturant, you know to stop drunk driving?  On top of that why the hell do I have to forcefully where a seat beat when women can kill there babies just because they don't want a child at the time. Why aren't there seat belt on the bus motorcyclys if they are  such life savers  which there NOT my bro almost died because he couldn't get his belt off.  Gays have right but smokers don't???? I can't smoke anywhere I want anymore but people can be gay all over town.  Nothing agains being gay everyone has there right but Smokers It like were deseased If people who test the air the probaly find some pretty nasty stuff in it look at our water now they say that is full of drugs.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

I believe that if the State is going to initiate a law that it should be a law that requires air filtration that is certified to eliminate a high percentage of smoke that non smokers could possibly breathe in.  There is no reason to eliminate smoking as there is technology out there to capture more smoke so that non smokers are not affected.  I do believe not all smoke removal products could be certified by the state, but there is something called Purifan that does the job quite well, and bar/restaurant owners should look into this.  I'm a smoker and I can say that yes it would affect me going out and spending money if I can't smoke in a bar or restaurant.  PLUS...It will also affect the Lottery business, because those that can't smoke will not visit and play Keno, if they are banned from smoking where they hang out.

I DO sell restaurant computer systems and Purifans for a living, and I know that this Purifan does what it says based upon my experiences and testimonials.  Most people are AMAZED how well they work and they cost as much as running a ceiling fan.   When I go to customers that have Purifans, it's almost like there is no smoking in the place.  If you are a restaurant or bar owner and want to check these out, please either email me or Private IM me, using the contact tab above and I'll be happy to show you information and how they work.  We sell approximately 50 of these per month to everything from small bars and restaurants to larger clubs including Elks, Legion Halls, etc that have huge bingo rooms and they are all very happy.  They filter so well also, that even in bars when you come in in the morning, you don't get that stale smoke, stale beer smell.

I don't believe the State should be regulating smoking in public places, although I do believe like in downtown Ann Arbor, you can't smoke near entrances to buildings or parking garages, etc....everyone still has a choice whether to walk in the door or not but a smart restaurant or bar owner will also work to eliminate smoke as an issue.

For you complaining about the long awaited ban on smoking in public places we've inhaled your second hand smoke in the work place eating in restaurants not able to enjoy the flavor of the food because you were done eating, you then lit up as we were trying to enjoy ours'and the food smelled and tasted like smoke. I think its your turn to try some clean air for oh lets say 70 years thats about how long you were able to lit up anywhere. anytime.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Thank god maybe we'll finally get a chance to acually smell and taste the food and even see it without all the smokey fog that comes with this horrible smell. I also love going to Florida where its a smoke free state. Some restaurants in my area are already going smoke free on their own and the buisness has really taken off families come and spend more money more bodies translates into dollars.

Why don't we just ban children from Bars, that makes a little more sense to me, or maybe cells phones, don't they cause brain cancer.

I pay taxes in this state as a smoker and probably a heck of alot more on my cigs, but yet you want to ban me from bars and restaurants, makes all the sense in the world.  Its just like TV, lets blame the TV on what our kids watch and not our selves.

    I oppose 100%

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

My partner and I are in total agreement of the ban on smoking in Michigan bars and restaruants. As residents of Traverse City we have supported the new non-smoking establishments. Said establishments have clearly not been negatively affected by the change. If anything business is booming. Most people are enthusiastic about being able to enjoy a meal and a drink without developing a sinus infection or other ailment as a result of an evening out. Lets get on the band wagon with California, Florida and all other non-smoking states.

If you want non smoking places, go to the hellhole of Florida. There's room for alot of the whiny nonsmokers down there. Smoking is my right, and if you don't' like my smoke, either don't breathe, or go be a Floridiot. The whole state is full of them!

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Ban Smoking in public places i know that you smokers have yours rights but still if you want to smoke atleast go outside. I've been in a resraurant in a non smoking section and it was at the other side of the restaurant from the smoking section and i could smell the smoke and I was breathing it in because people were smoking to much in the restaurant. All smokers do is put on smokers health at risk and infants can get ill from second hand smoke so ban smoking in public places dont make non smokers go somewhere else because of smokers.

First of all my friend, you need to understand that smoking, like drinking or driving are not "rights".  They are privileges that can be revoked at any time just like a driving license if you abuse it.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

I am highly allergic to perfume. I am hoping Michigan legislature will enact laws banning any product containing perfume & cologne from all public places including privately owned bars and restaurant.

My daughter is highly allergic to cats and dogs. I am hoping Michigan legislature will enact laws banning cats & dogs and any person who has come in contact with the fur of these animals (it clings to their clothing for days) from entering a public place including privately owned bars and restaurants.

My best friend was killed by a drunk driver. I am hoping Michigan legislature will enact laws banning the sale or consumption of alcohol from all public and private places. Bars could then pay their utility bills & mortgage through the sale of soft drinks, juices etc

I am very offended by the use of foul language. I am hoping Michigan legislature will enact laws banning the use of profane language in all public places including privately owned bars and restaurants.

Loud sustained noise has been proven to destroy hearing over time. I am hoping Michigan legislature will enact laws banning loud music in all public places including privately owned bars and restaurants.

I believe most people would agree that certain clothing would be considered indecent. I am hoping Michigan legislature will enact laws banning lewd or inappropriate clothing and require women to wear thick bras that would not reveal temperature changes. Men would be required to wear athletic supports. Teens would be required to wear pants that end at the waist - with a belt.

I could go on and on but I believe Michigan.gov has it's priorities straight. Do not leave choices to the stupid business owners as to how to run their businesses. Michigan.gov is a business and look how well they are doing. People and businesses are leaving Michigan by the hundreds of thousands. By all means, let Michigan.gov tell all business owners what to do.

If a smoke free establishment is so good for business why didn't everyone flock to casino windsor instead of the other way around?
