After viewing the nut-case, Monica Conyers on TV today, I got so upset with her and how unprofessional she is to other Council members that I had to send an email to all of the Council member, including the nut case Conyers.  She should be removed in a straight jacket!

If you feel the same here is their email address:

By the way Conyers email is riddles ---

    CockrelK@kcockrel.ci.detroit.mi.us;

Why is it that every council member answers their own e-mail, but Sam Riddle is supposed to answer that of Monica?  Not only that, I believe he left her employ a few weeks ago.

I don't know...that is the email address listed on council's website.

From the WXYZ website about this mornings hearing distruption:

The meeting began to fall apart just before noon when Conyers and Councilwoman JoAnne Watson began arguing their settlement deal votes. President Ken Cockrel brought the meeting back to order, but couldn't control Conyers. The exchange:

Cockrel: With all due respect president pro tem, I have the floor ... you just jumped on another councilmember about interrupting and now you're doing it to me. I have the floor.

Conyers: We know you do. But I said based upon...

Cockrel: I have the floor president pro tem.

    Conyers: The floor's out there.

Cockrel: I don't want to hear you anymore.

Conyers: You don't have to hear me. We don't have to hear you.

Cockrel: Then be quiet because I'm speaking.

Conyers: No, you not my daddy. You do that at home, not here.

Cockrel: I'm not your father, but I am the president and right now I have the floor.

Conyers: Exactly, so treat me with respect. Cause I'm tired of that. Be respectful. You may not do that at home, but you gonna do it up in here.

    Cockrel: Stop interrupting.

Conyers: Grow up. Control your house and you know how to treat other women better.

Cockrel: You're the last one to talk.

Conyers: I'm the first one to talk - Shrek. Shrek! The first one to talk. Don't disrespect me.

Cockrel: I will call this to adjourn.

Conyers: Do it baby! Do it! Do it!

Cockrel: We're going to take a brief recess.

Conyers: Do it! Cause ya'll not gonna disrespect me up here.

Cockrel: You're the one who just interrupted me.

    Conyers: No, I did not.

This is not my post, someone else posted on my post

This is the first thing I read after being gone all day... Someone said Gene and Mia were both not here or one of the same,, and I was totally sick/ill so I missed it and everyone had a good laugh on me. Your welcome all. When do I get a turn. I have to go back again and play catch up from 11:30am. Thanks for the blunt joke boomer,,, right?

I just about threw up today when the Lawyers were talking about KK leaving on business with his family. They said that this is another opportunity to spend quality-bonding time with his family, well bull S--- and  gag me with a dirty sock! I feel for Kim W she was really screwed today, they wern't very prepared today.  He need to show via receipts exactly what he did and how much City money he spent, Is his family included $$$ or does he pay for them separately. Sorry, business is business, his family doesn’t belong on it as that also makes it pleasure (in the lowest sense of the word). He probably leaves his family in a motel 6 while he messes with a hook--. And since when is going to church city business? That Judge should have pounced on that and all they could say was that is wasn’t clear why he was there, Well here’s an idea, ask him to provide proof of his actions. Actually Kim W office should have brought that up and insisted KK account for his wear a bout’s for the entire time, no one even questioned what he did in Texas, NO ONE unless I missed it. He IS a suspected FELON, and I don’t agree that he’s not a flight risk. He could be hiding money all over the place because he knows when every thing is out he is in big trouble and he will not go to jail. I could very easily see him leaving Detroit and living in Jamaca or someplace with no extradition. All you need is money. I still don’t see the reasons he has for so much travel, anyone enlighten me?

    Yeah, older GAY men!

Awwwwwww. I was going to make the same exact comment! My mother grew up in the same neighborhood with John. She said "His Gayness was common knowledge in the neighborhood. The next in line: Cockrel not eager, but ready to be mayor if Kilpatrick leaves post

    By Brent Snavely

    window.OAS_RICH('Middle')

As the legal quicksand surrounding Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick continues to get deeper, the spotlight on Detroit City Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. — viewed by many in the business community as a rational, calm consensus-builder — gets brighter.

Cockrel, 42, is in his third term as councilman. He became president of the Detroit City Council after he received the most votes of any City Council member in the November 2005 election.

And, on Friday, Cockrel said he was already considering a run for mayor before the mayor's scandal broke on Jan. 23.

"My position on that is that I haven't ruled it out," he said. "But I haven't necessarily ruled it in," Cockrel said.

Kilpatrick is embroiled in a text-message scandal linking him to an affair with former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty, the related firing of two police officers, an attempt to cover up that affair and a whistle-blower lawsuit.

And, since Kilpatrick testified in court that he did not have an affair, there is the possibility that he will face perjury charges following an investigation by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Cockrel, as council president, would become mayor if Kilpatrick resigns or is removed from office. It would occur automatically if Kilpatrick is convicted of a felony. Cockrel would serve until the next election or until a special election is held, depending on the timing of Kilpatrick leaving office.

Cockrel said Friday that scenario has been impossible to ignore.

"It's something I am very much aware of. It's not something I am salivating at the prospect of," Cockrel said. "Should that happen, I am prepared to step into the job and do the job. But it's not something that I am banking on. I have to really take it day by day."
    Could change hurt business?
What would it mean to metro Detroit’s business community if Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick resigned?

A senior board member of Detroit Renaissance Inc. said Friday that some of his peers fear a Kilpatrick resignation ultimately would lead to a more difficult City Council.

Current Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. would become mayor, President Pro Tem Monica Conyers would become president, and councilwoman JoAnn Watson, would become president pro tem.

Neither Conyers nor Watson is considered business-friendly, the board member said, but, beyond
that, the political grandstanding that would take place with the prospect of a wide-open mayor’s
race could bring progress in the city to a halt.

In the meantime, Renaissance is trying to set up a meeting between Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and a
handful of board members who meet with him quarterly to represent the powerful CEO council, the same board member said.

Kilpatrick told listeners of WMXD 92.3 FM on Friday that he was on “an assignment from God” and does not intend to resign. For the full story on that interview, see
    www.crainsdetroit.com.

    Kenneth Cockrel Jr.
    Title: City Council president
    Age: 42
Background: Elected to the City Council in 1997 and, as the top vote-getter, was elected council president in 2005. Serves on the Detroit Elections Commission and on the board of directors for the Detroit Transportation Corp., which operates the People Mover. Delegate to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.
Elected to the Wayne County Commission in 1994 and 1996. Former newspaper reporter with the Detroit Free Press, Grand Rapids Press and Cincinnati Inquirer. Was a columnist for Metro Times.
Education: Bachelor of arts degree in journalism, Wayne State University. Graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University and the Program for State and Local Government Officials at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Personal: Five children with wife Kimberly: Kenneth III, Kyle Vincent, Kennedy Victoria, Kendal Imani and Kayla Lanette. Son of the late former Detroit City Councilman Kenneth Cockrel Sr., and former Detroit Public Schools teacher Carol White Cockrel.
    — Jonathan Eppley
Few interviewed by Crain's wanted to comment on Cockrel becoming mayor, but several spoke about Cockrel's style and accomplishments as City Council president.

"I will tell you that we feel that Ken Cockrel has been very supportive of the business community, and he certainly has been someone who has kept a very open mind to business issues in the city," said Doug Rothwell, president of Detroit Renaissance Inc.

Detroit Renaissance is an organization with 52 business and university CEOs on its board that represent more than $1 trillion in revenue. The group is seeking to become a more vocal advocate on local and state policy issues.

"I just think people generally view him as very balanced and very sensible and aware of the need for economic development," Rothwell said.

Cockrel grew up surrounded by politics. His father was the late Kenneth Cockrel Sr., a former city councilman and civil rights activist, known for his rapid-fire oratory.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Cockrel Sr. helped organize protests of the Vietnam War at Wayne State University and later helped form organizations to fight police and court abuse in Detroit.

He was also widely viewed as a potential mayoral candidate before he died of a heart attack in 1989 at the age of 50. Cockrel Jr. is the son of his father's first wife, Carol White Cockrel. Cockrel Sr. later married Sheila Murphy Cockrel, who also is now a city councilwoman.

Cockrel Jr. has developed a political style that contrasts dramatically with that of his father.

As City Council president, Cockrel is viewed as a voice of reason leading an elected group of people who often fight bitterly among themselves and with the mayor.

"I think he has done a good job managing City Council," said Steve Mitchell, chairman of East Lansing-based Mitchell Research & Communications Inc. "It's is not an easy chore. ... He has gotten them to work well together, and he has gotten them to work with the mayor."

"I've never heard anything bad said about him," said Frank Taylor, CEO of Southern Hospitality Restaurant Group, a Detroit-based group of restaurants that includes Seldom Blues, which is often a meeting place for Detroit's business and political leaders.

During his first term, Cockrel secured passage of an ordinance mandating that the city of Detroit pay vendors and contractors for goods or services within 45 days of delivery or completion.

"I do try to build consensus ... but you can't please everybody," Cockrel said. "You have nine very powerful and distinct and often disparate voices on council. All nine of us often do not agree. My goal is to get at least five votes, because that is how you get thing done."

But while business leaders find Cockrel accessible, easy to talk to and supportive, they also say he plays his cards close to the vest.

John Rakolta, chairman and CEO of Detroit-based Walbridge Aldinger Co., said it's hard to form an opinion on Cockrel because his stances on issues aren't well-known. If he becomes mayor or runs for mayor, Cockrel may be forced to make his policy opinions clearer.

"I've had dinner with him. He's engaging, he's a good listener," Rakolta said. "But where he comes down on things, I don't know yet. He'll have to be more specific if that's the case."

Cockrel earned Mitchell's respect in the early days following the Detroit Free Press' expos about the text messages.

"It would have been easy for him to call for the resignation of the mayor," Mitchell said. "I think the fact that he chose not to do that speaks highly of him."

Although he has been cautious, Cockrel did introduce a resolution last Thursday calling on City Council to hire a special counsel to represent the city's interest in the appeal of a judge's order to release secret settlement documents in the lawsuits involving three former police officers and Kilpatrick.

Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Robert Columbo Jr. ordered the city to release the documents on Tuesday. Kilpatrick and the city released some of the documents on Friday and appealed the decision to release other documents to the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Despite several meetings City Council has scheduled for this week to deal with various aspects of Kilpatrick's text-message scandal, Cockrel said the council remains able to manage its regular duties.

"There is no doubt that it is definitely not business as usual on Detroit City Council," Cockrel said. "I kind of liken the mayor's situation to a vortex that sucks everything around it in. Now, is it taking up all of our time? No. Absolutely not. ... We can effectively do what we need to do."

In November, Cockrel held his annual fundraiser in the atrium of Compuware Corp.'s headquarters in Detroit.

The Rev. Patrick Gahagen, a pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Detroit, said the event was attended by a large number of business and community leaders and was much larger than the year before.

Gahagen, who has watched Cockrel carefully for several years, left with the impression that Cockrel is a rising star.

"This is someone who I felt, if he wanted to go for higher office, he could do it," Gahagen said. "I thought then that he might be able to give Kilpatrick a run for his money someday."

For his part, Kilpatrick isn't planning to go anywhere.

"At this point, I have every intention of being mayor unless God tells me to do something else," Kilpatrick said Friday during an interview on WMXD 92.3 FM.

    Brent Snavely: (313) 446-0405; bsnavely@crain.com

Staff reporters Dan Duggan and Robert Ankeny, as well as intern Jonathan Eppley, contributed to this report.

    More about succession
If Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is removed or resigns from office before April 14 this year, the city charter requires that the balance of the unexpired term be decided in the 2008 state primary and general elections.

Candidates then would have until 4 p.m. on May 13 to file for the Aug. 5 primary. Two top vote-getters would face off in the Nov. 4 general election.

If Kilpatrick were to depart after April 14, Cockrel also takes over, but the City Council would have to call a special election to fill the vacancy, taking action at least 80 days before the date they set for the primary and 120 days before the general election.

A vacancy in the mayor’s office early next year would mean the post would be filled via the regular 2009 Aug. 4 primary and Nov. 3 general elections. A special election would be called if the vacancy occurs later than April 13, 2009.

I don't even know if this is the place to post this, but I am so livid about this Detroit BS I can't see straight. The counsel is incompetent as you can see by their antics, and kk the thug is out of contro and noone can stop him YET. Nobody gives a damn about his text messages to his floozie, it's how when and where he spends city money and who's lives he's ruined and how he has managed to bamboozle everyone who lives in the city with his fancy rederic and heat reversal he is so good at. I have heard for years "if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS" as he is a master at BS. Sharon McPhailure is quoted as saying recently that "the settlement in the whistleblower trial by Mike Stefanis own admission, could have been 11 million instead of 8.4 and that the counsel has settled HUNDREDS of cases at her recommendation with no comment" What does this tell you people??? Herein lies THE issue. HUNDREDS of settlements??? She and her legal department are baffoons, which is why when it REALLY hits the fan they hire white attorneys from suburbs. I know that sounds racist, but I am far from racist. Thats just REALITY. There shouldn't be HUNDREDS of settlements. The reason there is is because the people who are trying to run the city and the people that are supposed to advise them how to stay out of trouble are incompetent baffoons, up to and including kk. They act as though they saved 2.6 million by the wb settlement, when it never would have happened had kk and his peach not gone after fine police officers trying to do the job they are sworn to do. I have never in my life been more livid about any political scene. Jennifer, please step in and can the lot of them at city hall and get some kids in there. Even they could do a better job.

This is the right place, we are crazy insane angry. New input is always welcome. The only thing we try and avoid are things called knobbelheads, These are people who put in crazy comments like “no on is without sin” in a futile attempt to side with Kwame “he is just being picked on” We try and not respond because they are just trying to upset those of us who take this problem seriously and know that it could very well be the end of Detroit and suburbs if KK is not kicked out. Conyers will probably be on Jay Leno tonight. Does anyone knows if it’s on the web yet, Conyers outburst, I just heard it on the radio and THAT was embarrassing, was the meeting televised?

    Kathy, you are pretty funny,

Yes I think J Grandmole needs to step in

This cant get any worse, can  it
