Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
Just let the restaurants Choose whether it be a nonsmoking or a smoking establishment. If they make it smoking put a sign on door, SMOKING ALLOWED HERE ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. Thay way the WHINERS will have thier choice also.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
I am not a smoker, so, no smoking anywhere is great, but, all my friends, family, and, co-workers smoke, yes, it is bad, but if you do away with smoking in restaurants, and, bars in Michigan, it will only hurt our enconomy more then it already it..what the heck is wrong with people, haven't we lost enough? If restaurants and bars want to be smoke free, then, let them be! If you don't like the smoke then go to a smoke free enviroment. What happened to the freedom of choice!

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
. How many non-smokers drive those huge suv's that pollute
everything? Last I checked this is a free country and we ALL have
rights. Everything gives us cancer these days. They kill our animals
with tainted food. What do you think they add to our food?!? We need
jobs and lower gas prices. Let businesses decide what they want. Babies
don't belong in bars, but everyone has to stop smoking in them?
Ridiculous!
Ban smoking in casino's and 'bill's' wife can kiss her job goodbye, because nobody will be frequenting them anymore.

I am a 44 year old mother of two . I am not a smoker. I am also overweight, but when I overeat no one is full but me. I should not have to unwillingly partake in someone elses HABIT that has been proven to be detrimental to my health.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
I personally think it should be left up to the owner's of bars and restaurants. If people don't want to be around smoking than feel free to go to non-smoking establishments. Why don't you call and ask Farmington Ram's Horn how that is working for them ? Michigan economy is having a hard enough time struggling, do we really want to take this opportunity to make it even worse for them. I worked in the local bars for 15 years and I'm hear to tell you, you'll kill um.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
Maybe we should just send all the smokers out of Michigan and lose all of the revenue it generates for the state - i'm sure they can afford to lose it! Let's see what other rights can be taken away too - how about no more pets - they pollute the environment - so do cars and the factories that produce them! Maybe we could all just walk everywhere - think of how healthy that would be!!! We could ban alcohol which would eliminte all the drunks from our roads - air conditioners use too much electricity so we should get rid of them ... Dry cleaners use incredibly toxic chemicals so if we didn't smell like smoke we could get rid of them too!!! We could ban lawn mowers, weed trimmers, ATV's, boats and how about those littel carts on the golf course - do you have any idea how much electricity it takes to recharge their batteries!
In all sincerity, I could live with smoke free restaurants, but a bar is a totally different adult atmosphere, maybe we could put all the non-smokers behind a little plexi-glass shield to protect them or make them stand at least 20 feet away from the doorway so they don't have to smell or inhale my smoke.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
the neo-nazi non smoking whiners in this country must be stoped. i dont smoke for the most part (just an occasional cigar) but i am sick and tired of neo-nazi non smokers trying to take away liberties that americans have enjoyed for many generations and i am very annoyed by other people telling me how to live MY life!!!!!! i was once at tiger stadium for opening day years ago and it was very cold that day so the place was almost empty. i took the seat i paid for and noted that the only other people in my section were about a hundred feet or so away. at that time i was a smoker and i lit a cigarette at which time i saw these people look up at me and then they came up and sat directly behind me. as soon as they sat down behind me they started complaining about my smoking. i told them that we were outdoors and smoking was allowed there at that time and i was in the seat i paid for and that perhaps they should either return to the seats they came from or choose from any of the hundreds of empty seats around us!! they stayed right behind me and complained for 9 innings!!! thats the kind of people that these neo-nazi nonsmokers are!!!! if this was 1957 instead of 2007 we could simply punch them in the mouth and that would be the end of it! however in 2007 we would be arrested, jailed and sued for everything we own-----just for punching a nerd----how screwed up is this country???????????

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
This is a health issue, especially for those who must work all day/night in that smoke. The smoking customers? They'll still go - there is no alternative. Restaurants will see an increase in families, who want a healthy place to eat.
Think of it this way: there is no pee-corner in a swimming pool! It doesn't work! --Hiker

I KNOW THERE ARE SOME WHO ENJOY SMOKING BUTWHY SHOULD THE REST OF US GIVE UP OUR RIGHT TO HAVE AN

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
I am a non-smoker, but this is a terrible idea for the businesses in towns/cities on Michigan borders. Various counties in Illinois implemented the same band, and businesses are suffering horribly now. Restuarants and bars that were booming in business are now forced to close. The reason why....smokers just drive the extra 20 minutes across the borders to where they can smoke. Several of these business moved into towns with tax incentitves for creating new jobs before the smoking bans. But now, they're laying off folks left and right because they don't have the consumers coming in anymore. And some have closed and reopened in the areas where smoking is allowed. A few businesses created outdoor eating areas for their smoking guests...but they still lose business on rainy days and in the winter seasons. So now...all that tax paying money is going to other areas. Seeing how the Detroit area is already suffering from major economic losses, it's quite conceivable that smoking guests with drive to Ohio to spend their money. And...their non-smoking friends and family will go with them. Can Michigan really afford to lose more money and business?
A better idea....creating a smoking license for businesses. Set up requirements for healthier air environments, such as only businesses that have state of the art air filtering systems and true non-smoking areas would be allowed to have a smoking license. Similar to how only businesses that have liquor licenses could serve liquor, only those with a smoking license could have a smoking section.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
Most definitely. I feel if people want to smoke after their meal, they can do so outside. It is not good to inhale second-hand smoke. It would be wonderful to be able to go out for an evening and not have to put up with smoke which has a way of getting into your hair, clothes and even your skin and I can only imagine what it does to small children and babies.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?
No way should the government be making this decision, the business owners should have this choice. If you don't like smoking don't frequent bars & restaurants that allow it. Here goes Big Brother trying to take away another privilage/right! What's next, bring back proabition?
