The other problem is that you presume that everyone here thinks that Kwame has done nothing for the city... that also is false. What the people here are saying is that the attitude like Kwame is the only person that can do positive things for the city is DEAD wrong, and to think that anything that is positive, that has happened to the city, was completely because of Kwame, is also wrong. The only positive things that have occured in Detroit have been in direct correlation with the BUSSINESS people, ie, the Fox, Comerica Park, Ford Field...

Do you really believe that Detroit can stand alone? Do you think that Detroit can prosper without the support of the suburbs? Do you think that the casinos are filled with Detroit residents? Do you think that the season ticket holders of the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, the Fischer Theater, The Opera House, are Detroiters? Do you honestly belive that the Auto Show, Autorama, the Boat Show, etc, are filled by Detroiters?

For that matter do you think that the majority of the lawyers working downtown, the engineers at GM, and the technical people at Compuware are Detroiters?

Ignorance and arrogance is what makes this Mayor look like a complete ass, everyday. It's doing the same for you. If he was innocent, Kwame would go out of his way to clear the air. Just like Mr. Obama. Kwame Kilpatrick thinks that he is above the truth... I for one can't wait to see if his new girlfriend at Club Fed looks more like a woman than Carlita does.

Keep digging Steve, I love seeing your reports.  There is no end to the scandal regarding this mayor and personally I cannot wait until he is charged with lying under oath and dragged off to jail without his precious body guards. Who do the Kilpatricks think they are, the king and queen of Detroit? Why in the world do they need a private jet to take them to Florida and back? There is no way he paid for that himself and I would bet anything he has tried to slide it under the radar of the city so that the taxpayers are paying for it. It was priceless to see the look on his face when he realized that you knew what he was up to with the jet.

My husband and I joke at home that the polish babe at the MLK thing was probably Sharon McPhail. Something has changed her mind, since a few years ago she was calling him a thug and accused him of trying to electrocute her. She spins so much for him now she is probably dizzy.

Spoken like a true suburbanite.  But my point is, Kwame has done/is doing some of the same things as Dubya but with no coverage.  If there was/is any kind of recall, call for Dubja's resignation, etc., the media isn't/didn't cover it.  There should be no selective media coverage.  If journalism is what you do, then broaden your horizons.  OTHER THINGS HAPPEN IN DETROIT THAT ARE POSITIVE as well.  It just appears the media is attempting to sway people's way of thinking.  Pro-Kwame people are no more wrong for their opinions than the Anti-Kwame people are.  Like I said before, STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE.

For the record, I don't know what the HELL you're talking about with Obama.  But, that's your opinion.  See how that works.  BTW who says Kwame's going to "Club Fed"?  Again, that's your opinion.  We'll all see what happens in the next few days.

My question to you now is, will all the tongues continue to wag viciously if he leaves/quits/resigns?  Of course they will.  It really doesn't matter what Mr. Kilpatrick does because there will still be a great number of suburbanites/outsiders who actually believe that they know whats best for the city.  What suburbanites/outsiders need to do is STOP telling Detroiters what they need to do or how they should feel.  They already know.  Thanks just the same.

Moe-  I give you credit for admitting that racisism is not just a white issue.  I have to wonder with all the hard evidence, the poor state of the city and the suffering of the residents why is he still defended?  The Mayor has brought this mess on himself with his illegal, unethical, and deplorable actions.  Any averge Joe/Jane would have been charged and jailed by now for committing perjury in a court of law.  Any public official who is paid with tax payer dollars should be scrutinized and accountable regardless if he is white, black, purple, blue or orange! 

 

 

I laude Channel 7 and Steve Wilson for their efforts to seek the truth in Mayor Kilpatrick's activities. As a public official, Mayor Kilpatrick has been shown to be less than forthright in his conduct as the Mayor of the City of Detroit. These news investigations are a necessary tool to let the mayor know he is not above the law or public scrutiny. There are valid issues to be raised about the propreity of private donations of money and services to Mayor Kilpatrick. Nobody does "nothin' for nothin' ". Cronyism has no place in public office and history tells us that it is the constituents who ultimately suffer as a result.

As someone that lived in the city until I had children, and continues to work in the city...I sincerely don't consider myself an "outsider". I pay city taxes. I own property in the city.

Your ignorance and most likely your arrogance that makes you think that Detroit supports itself, is almost laughable if not so completely pathetic. Detroit is the state of Michigan's BIG MONEY PIT. Who do you think funds Detroit? Where is it that you think the checks come from that Detroit receives from the State of Michigan?

Who do you think funds the welfare system in Michigan? DO you think that Detroiter's are contributing MORE than they are receiving? Let's talk about Medicaid...since in my daily activities, I see Medicaid receipients EVERYDAY, all day... and they are almost exclusively Detroit residents. I also see many of what I call the working poor... that can't get medicaid because they have employment, albeit, not earning enough to purchase health care insurance. Of course, we could go into the whole foodstamp/bridge card thing too, but there really is no point.

70,000 homes in the city of Detroit in foreclosure... unemployment im the city of Detroit, somewhere around 18% (that we know of)... statewide, 7.5% as of January, the highest in the nation, largely due to the astrnomical rate in the city.

So please... educate me on all of the good deeds that Kwame has done... Of course, I would like a list of only what HE has done for the good of the city, not what the SUBURBANITES have given to Kwame. Give me that long list of what KWAME has done for the neighborhoods, the people of Detroit, subtracting out anything that was contributed by us outsiders (this includes any monies he used that were from the Feds or the State, because that came from us outsiders)

As soon as I review your list of his many stand alone accomplishments, I will be the fist to offer my apologies.

In the meanwhile, I will go and take care of the Detroiter's that I see each and everyday, that can barely put a roof over their heads, and food in the mouths of their children. Rest assured, I feel so much better knowing that Detroiter's like you spend your idle time defending the very man that is the poster boy for everything that is wrong in Detroit.

I think that all of you "Detroiter's" should next elect someone like Malik Shabazz... he would be even a better choice for Detroit's future :)

Steve Wilson has been warning the city of Detroit and the Government about Kwame for a LONG TIME, it is sad that no one listened to him, if they had the mayor could have been called to task and this MESS would have been avoided, now the citizens will be paying out monies that we do not have and our Grandchildren will be paying a debt that  rightfully is not theirs, just as it is not ours, this is a tragedy, that should not have been allowed to happen.

Great response, I for one am sick of the people that continue to point the finger at someone else, including Bush, THIS IS NOT about them.  This is about KK and the wrong he has done.

I also agree that KK has done things for the city, the same as ANY person elected as mayor would have done (not because HE was mayor).

Detroit CAN NOT stand alone and we shall soon see how much it can not stand alone.  God lord we are hearing from people all over the United States and the World about what a blemish this is.  If the everyday people are hearing about this, than you can be sure that business's and organizations including sport venues are hearing about it.  The decline has already started and will take many years to recover, even with a new mayor.

And to make matters WORSE he continues to think he can buffalo people into thinking he is innocent, the media is making up LIES and everything they are doing is illegal.  Let us not forget he and his supporters are the ones making this into what it is including a racial mess.

Good piece of work.  Keep up the pressure.   It's obvious the Mayor is never going to resign, so the only alternative to restoring some sort of respectability back to the City of Detroit is to have him removed from Office.  These reports and others showing Kilpatricks disdain for rules or even laws will at some point prove to much for politicians in this state to continue to ignore the obvious.  Get rid of this bum.  He is hurting not only Detroit but the entire State of Michigan.
