you're right, there are no easy answers or solutions.  The honorable thing would be for Kwame to resign.

 I know James Thomas to be an honorable attorney yet I am surprised he offers his representation in this case. No doubt he has his reasons.

Kwame's dilemma is that he has/had great potential but lacks maturity, as most blatantly exemplified by his choice of appointments. If he truly cared about "his" city he would resign.

   To end up with who knows who to be an inter-rim Mayor. If Kenneth Cockrell Jr. could sit across the table from Lonnie Bates. I wouldn't trust him with a key to a gym locker, let alone the key to the City. Nor his mother, Conyers, Watson, or Kenyatta. And I didn't trust Hendricks when he was the Deputy Mayor. Credibility is MY biggest issue. Who CAN we trust until we can elect someone new somebody please tell me.

   Who can you replace him with that will serve this City with the integrity it so needs right now ? His replacement in my mind is definitely NOT currently holding a City Council seat. Because as far as I'm concerned if I have more than my one vote say so. This City will have some NEW Council Members as well. The time for having an ostrich mentality should be long since gone, yet it is still practiced by many politicians.

I understand your concerns, we can only hope and pray that we don't jump from the skillet into the frying pan.  Nevertheless we must stand up now for what is right and take it from there, one battle at a time, until everyone sees that Michigan is not a dumping ground (literally) for everyones garbage.

 

Well, somehow the Voters have to get beyond buying into the mind-numbing rhetoric used by Kwame and other Coleman imitators. The 2nd term granted to Kwame was incomprehensible. I supported Kwame, actively, the 1st time around but the sense of betrayal cut to the quick. Any large City has it's share of corruption and incompetence, but the depth of corruption in an ever shrinking city like Detroit is amazing. 

It would be great if we could broom out all of City Council, and Kwame and start fresh. I've watched this Council Side-show for almost 40 years. It's been a downward spiral. It's almost like a large portion of the voters take a perverse glee in perpetuating the madness.

Sadly, there is a hot-button that the crafty like Kwame and his ilk know how to push. And yes, you'll always find those lucky few on the friends and family plan that eat at the King's table and swear what a great despot they serve.  Only when the most stubborn and ill-informed voters of the City wake up and see the light will there be hope for the City, not just another round of "I got mine"...

DetroitTD;  Mine was the opposite. I didn't vote for him the first go round. I just did not trust him. For the second term I did not want to stop any progress that he had begun with any new personel changes. I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it right ? And yet, now to come full circle in my original assessment of him. Truthfully I'm not surprised, I attended a few of his fund raisers at Wayne State. And each time I saw Mayor Archer in attendance. So for him to be this bone headed is no surprise. Afterall, his closest friends call him "Killer" some nickname huh ??

   My biggest complaint is that everyone who wants Kilpatrick's head on a platter, (me included by the way) refuses to acknowledge that his replacement should be qualified and ready to take this position with the dignity, and credibility necessary to get the job done for it's RESIDENTS. The people who are LOYAL residents to this City, deserve nothing less.

   I stated in an earlier post on another thread that I will not, nor will I ever condone the type of behavior that has been exhibited by the Mayor. But, he and his former staff member must be allowed "Due Process". Their fates rest with the Courts now. And it's our job to begin to find a worthy replacement for their soon to be vacated positions. And I'm sure in the hearts of many there are about 5, or 6 Council seats that need replacement as well.

As I stated before how many due processes does it take to remove this man from office, the first trial by jury found them guilty and cost the city over eight million, this will be their SECOND trial.  How many is enough? 

As for finding a replacement, as with the new superintendent, certain council members, home improvement scammers, out of town drug dealers, out of town johns, dishonest judges, lawyers, doctors,  etc. a lot of the people who are shady flock to Detroit for key positions because of the apathy of its police force and its reputation for looking the other way when it comes to corruption, possible vote rigging and lack of high moral standards and upkeep, this has gone on for decades. 

Why do you think the Mayor is so dumbfounded at the opposition to his behavior, he is wondering why Detroit has decided to raise the bar now! 

I was taught you get what you demand, Detroit will never attract quality people to our key positions until they know they can serve without being required to turn a blind eye to the corruption of their or other departments.

Starting with the Mayor, it will take a long time,  for the roots of corruption run very deep here and would surprise many,  however I think it is way over due for Detroiters to demand higher standards for today and future generations.

   Somehow I believe you are confusing your events. What is going on now is an entirely different set of circumstances. The proceedings directed towards the Mayor and Ms. Beatty are a direct result of the findings of the wrongful termination suite lodged by the officers in question. The prosecutor felt that they had enough evidence to charge the Mayor and his then Chief of Staff  Ms. Beatty with several counts of perjury, along with several counts of obstruction of justice. Which in turn is where we are now. The process of appeals maybe lengthy, but everyone should be entitled to their day, or in this case days in Court.

Not entirely different, in short the Mayor, Beatty and others were found guilty of wrongful termination of police officers, which cost the city millions.  They were found GUILTY, they elected NOT TO APPEAL.   What is going on now is not what cost us eight million this is a nightmarish continuation of the eight million dollar loss to the city.  The loss of millions of  taxpayer money (and why) is the reason citizens want the Mayor removed, at least that was my understanding.  What is going on now is just more fuel to the angry fire.

Very nice letter Magenta....only one bit of advice...when you write city council try to keep your words less than 2 syllables. That way, even Barbara Rose Collins and Martha Reeves can read and understand it. :-)

As a white Detroiter I had to step back and regroup after reading about your conversation with Kwame Kilpatrick the other day. Apparently you were on the phone with the mayor and said to him something to the effect that you don't want to see a white woman come in and make a decision about a black man. Why does it need to be white vs. black, us against them? Please recall that there are still 70-90,000 whites living in this city. Imagine if a white council member in another city said the same type of comment against blacks. There would be an uproar.

I don't always agree with you on every position you take but I truly have come to believe that you vote with your heart and you vote in the best interest of this city. I respect you for that.

 

Kwame Kilpatrick, a black man, had three BLACK police officers fired to cover himself from the embarrasment of an affair that he had with Christine Beatty. To the best of my knowledge neither Gov. Granholm or any other white person I can think of has fired three black men for a stupid ass reason like that.

 

My home value has shrunk %30 by all accounts, my property taxes continue to rise, city services like police, trash and fire all seem to be slipping. Add to that the insensitive remarks of a council member and the downright racist LIES( see attached article from metrotimes.com) of a mayor that said during his state of the city address that he had been called the N word a lot in the past month but cannot seem to back it up. I really am trying to hold out and not throw in the towel and just abandon my home and move to where I feel more welcome and where I will receive better value for my money. Please help me to do that. Please think before you make certain comments. With comments like yours and the mayors you will never get any whites to move into this city because they feel unwelcome. Without whites moving to the city you simply do not have the diversified economic base needed to sustain a healthy metropolis.

I'm not a detroiter but I was raised in detroit east side,I cannot vote to oust the mayor ,I wish I could.A while back I posted that I would do my part to help.Today, I did I cancelled my comcast tv and internet and was asked why as  they always do. I did tell them the reason was that they had given Kilpatrick  a program three days a week to speal his lies, that was really a slap in the face of the law abiding citezins.

this is one of the ways to show my support for the good people of detroit.The other I 've stopped going to the detroit casinos and sport events.

When the detroit elite that own businesses in detroit start seeing their profit fall from people  from the suburbs maybe they will get on the band wagon and start asking  for Kwame's resignation---------------
