Re: Council Moves to Oust Mayor
GLDDET: Somehow I believe you are confusing your events. What is going on now is an entirely different set of circumstances. The proceedings directed towards the Mayor and Ms. Beatty are a direct result of the findings of the wrongful termination suite lodged by the officers in question. The prosecutor felt that they had enough evidence to charge the Mayor and his then Chief of Staff Ms. Beatty with several counts of perjury, along with several counts of obstruction of justice. Which in turn is where we are now. The process of appeals maybe lengthy, but everyone should be entitled to their day, or in this case days in Court.
I'm sorry but I think someone mentioned it yesterday. Didn't they (KK and CB) already have their day in court and lost 8.4 million dollars. They started out firing someone to cover up their lies, and continue to lie and challange the public to prove they didn't.

Recall petitions filed against Detroit council members
Christine MacDonald / The Detroit News
DETROIT -- Recall petitions were filed late Wednesday against the five council members who voted to launch an ouster of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in the wake of the $8.4 million police whistle-blower settlement scandal.
The petitions were filed by Glenda Morgan and cited "abuse of power" and "negligence" as the reasons. The five council members Morgan filed petitions are: President Kenneth Cockrel Jr., Kwame Kenyatta, Sheila Cockrel, Brenda Jones and JoAnn Watson. Wayne county election officials have to approve the petition language before the recall can get under way.
Officials approved language for a recall campaign against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in late April headed by Angelo Brown, a 45-year-old security guard who in the past has run unsuccessfully for the Detroit City Council and Wayne County Commissioner.
To oust the mayor or a council member, a recall petitioner needs 56,970 signatures.
You can reach Christine MacDonald at (313) 222-2396 or cmacdonald@detnews.com.

Yes, it was magenta who brought this up, and she is correct!
While it's true that KK and CB are now facing specific charges as to their lying, malfeasance in office and obstruction of justice, shouldn't the fact that their willful misconduct, which has already cost the city $8.4 million, be enough to remove them from office? Many people in the private sector would have been fired immediately if they cost their employers so much, or even if they caused a judgment against their employer.
THEY were the ones who caused the judgment against the city, and it was not just the money that was at stake. They tried to destroy the lives of three policemen! And of that there is no doubt.
To my knowledge, magenta is the first person who really brought this fact to light - that they, as agents of the city, have already been found guilty in the "whistleblowers" trial, and that right there should be enough to remove them from office.
The charges they face now would call for additional penalties (prison time), and that's another issue. But both (not just CB) should be gone from the city payroll at this time, based on the prior judgment against the city.
Excellent work, magenta!

Will the people who filed this recall petition have as much trouble getting their wording approved as the people did who were filing petitions to get Kwame recalled? And if it works (the recall) will that give Detroit a City Council composed of only Monica Conyers, Martha Reeves, Barbara Rose Collins and Albertta Tinsley? Who would they enlist to fill the other seats? Probably Ella Bulla Comings, Anya Kilpatrick, Judge Giles and Judge Atkins. Then they could really get things done (approved) and REALLY "fix" the city!

Will be interesting to see if the media "promotes" these recalls with more coverage over time beyond this article as opposed to the recall petition for the mayor.

Re: Council Moves to Oust Mayor
GLDDET: Cheryl48: DetroitTD:
you're right, there are no easy answers or solutions. The honorable thing would be for Kwame to resign.
I know James Thomas to be an honorable attorney yet I am surprised he offers his representation in this case. No doubt he has his reasons.
Kwame's dilemma is that he has/had great potential but lacks maturity, as most blatantly exemplified by his choice of appointments. If he truly cared about "his" city he would resign.
***************
"If he truly cared about "his" city he would resign."
AMEN!!!
To end up with who knows who to be an inter-rim Mayor. If Kenneth Cockrell Jr. could sit across the table from Lonnie Bates. I wouldn't trust him with a key to a gym locker, let alone the key to the City. Nor his mother, Conyers, Watson, or Kenyatta. And I didn't trust Hendricks when he was the Deputy Mayor. Credibility is MY biggest issue. Who CAN we trust until we can elect someone new somebody please tell me.
Who can you replace him with that will serve this City with the integrity it so needs right now ? His replacement in my mind is definitely NOT currently holding a City Council seat. Because as far as I'm concerned if I have more than my one vote say so. This City will have some NEW Council Members as well. The time for having an ostrich mentality should be long since gone, yet it is still practiced by many politicians.
Ken Cockrell, Jr.would be a good interim Mayor. Cockrell didn't elect Lonnie Bates the people of Detroit did! He tries to be a voice of reason on the council.

Re: Letter to Joanne Watson
taxpayer:
This is a letter I sent recently to Council member Watson. I would like to hear what other folks thought about this. It's fine if you disagree with my thoughts. I just want honest opinions.
Dear Council Member Watson,
As a white Detroiter I had to step back and regroup after reading about your conversation with Kwame Kilpatrick the other day. Apparently you were on the phone with the mayor and said to him something to the effect that you don't want to see a white woman come in and make a decision about a black man. Why does it need to be white vs. black, us against them? Please recall that there are still 70-90,000 whites living in this city. Imagine if a white council member in another city said the same type of comment against blacks. There would be an uproar.
I don't always agree with you on every position you take but I truly have come to believe that you vote with your heart and you vote in the best interest of this city. I respect you for that.
Kwame Kilpatrick, a black man, had three BLACK police officers fired to cover himself from the embarrasment of an affair that he had with Christine Beatty. To the best of my knowledge neither Gov. Granholm or any other white person I can think of has fired three black men for a stupid ass reason like that.
My home value has shrunk %30 by all accounts, my property taxes continue to rise, city services like police, trash and fire all seem to be slipping. Add to that the insensitive remarks of a council member and the downright racist LIES( see attached article from metrotimes.com) of a mayor that said during his state of the city address that he had been called the N word a lot in the past month but cannot seem to back it up. I really am trying to hold out and not throw in the towel and just abandon my home and move to where I feel more welcome and where I will receive better value for my money. Please help me to do that. Please think before you make certain comments. With comments like yours and the mayors you will never get any whites to move into this city because they feel unwelcome. Without whites moving to the city you simply do not have the diversified economic base needed to sustain a healthy metropolis.
Well said, Taxpayer. When I read the article that same comment by Watson jumped out at me - Why say this person was black or white? It was a racist comment by Watson.

Re: Council Moves to Oust Mayor
I think that it's about time for someone to take some kind of action!
Where are the Fed's in this mockery of justice? Its obvious they don't think that the cities police and legal departments were corrupted, and used by the mayor's addministration to further diminish the apearance of, and cover-up their crimes! Now the Feds do think that it is important to go after peanuts like Fieger for something that didn't hurt anyone or anything except his own bank account and pride, and not the already burdend city couffers for years to come.
Least we forget the witnesses of the party: Are any of the hired girls still alive, or has the mayors posse taken care of them too?
This line is to the mayors family... Only a jury of "idiots" would aquit!
PS: MS. Beaty, if you do happen to make a plea agreement, watch your back; as we already know... these cowards will murder defenceless women to protect his dishonor!

I agree that any action is better than what we have witnessed thus far. There are a few things to keep in mind...
The Feds are a lot of things, but fast is not one of them. Rest assured though, when the Feds do come for you, by all likelihood, you are going bub-bye. They do have a 97% conviction rate. Try to remember that it is our Federal Government that we are talking about, time is on their side. They don't indict, until they have enough to convict, period. Now, most of us can't imagine that there isn't enough to convict at this point, but opinion and fact are completely different animals.
As I am fond of saying, "they don't bang down your door unless they already have enough to convict... whatever they get once they have banged down your door, is bonus." The average IRS case lasts 18-24 months. I have no doubt, whatsoever, that more than one Federal agency is investigating KK and the practices of he and CB. For instance, the IRS for tax evasion, the Attorney General of the US for Mortgage fraud, DEA for drugs, the FBI for the corruption in the Police Department, etc.
I also know, with certainty, that if one Department begins to investigate, and they uncover mis-doings that are applicable to another department, that they bring the other agency in.
Patience is not something that any of us have when it concerns the crimes that have been committed and continue to be committed against the citizens of Detroit and the State of Michigan, but it's something that we must withstand. We all know that trials are not quick. It has only been a few months since the unraveling of at least the beginning of this. In reality it is really a short timeframe.
As for Geoff Fieger... Geoff isn't going anywhere. Mike Cox is the one that started this ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars. Sort of ironic when you think about it... Mike Cox tried to show his "authority" and busted down Fieger's door, but in the next breath, he is the one that chose NOT to interview Carlita, interviewed Kwame PRIVATELY (the only person interviewed without a State Police Officer present, and NOT under oath (not that it would matter with Kwame since an oath has no meaning to him)), and Cox is the one that decided that the party at the Manoogian was an "Urban Legend". Hmmmmm. Yeah... Geoff Fieger is MUCH more dangerous, LOL.
Geoff Fieger is a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them. My prediction is that not only will Fieger walk... but he will champion the undoing of Mike Cox. Go ahead Mikey... run for Governor :) I dare you.

I actually read in the Free Press yesterday that after their court proceedings on Tuesday, KK went over to CB and hugged her and one kissed the other on the cheek.....what's that all about? Has she no sense at all? Why didn't she turn her back on him when she saw him coming? What does Carlita think about this? Is he trying to remind her how much they love each other and not to deal with the prosecuor? OOOOh it gets crazier and crazier and crazier......
