Please ban smoking in restaurants.  I would love it.  We go to Florida for a month in the spring and going into restaurants there is so nice since they ban all smoking.  The places are also so clean.  I know my family will be very happy when the No Smoking ban is in effect.  I hope it passes and I hope it passes soon!

What ever happened to choice?  If I see a restaurant or bar that has posted a non-smoking sign I have a choice to go in or go somewhere else.  Why is this so hard to understand?  If you don't want to go to a place that permits smoking, don't go!   Let the businesses decide what they want to do.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

According to some shows on the discovery and science channels for second hand smoke to affect anyone they would have to be exposed to the smoke for hours on end for years. Me being a smoker find that most smokers are very courteous when around non smokers but I can't say the same about the non smoker. Also I have extreme reactions to perfums and cologns that cause me to have constantly watering eyes and itchy nose to the point that I can barely breath so does this intitle me to go for a ban on anyone who wears these things to stay out of public places as well? Thank You

I am a smoker and I can tell you that some of the restaurants that I have been in are smoke free.  There are a few in the U. P.  However I really think it is up to the owner of the restaurant or bar to decide if they are willing to.  A lot of people that go into bars smoke.  I am not a drinker but do go to the bar with my husband.  I do not think the governement has the right or should have the right to tell us what to do.  This is a free country after all.

yes ban it everywhere.  Even the casino's.  My wife works there and every night she comes home she reeks of smoke.  So many of her co-workers are sick (cancer) she has never smoked and has to put up with the smoking at her table(dealer) some she says blow in her face on purpose and the management does not want them(dealers) to wave the smoke away from them(suppose to be offensive)

I personnally believe us as Americans are having our FREEDOM ripped away from us by everyone from Congress to the everyday WHINER.  I say the SMOKERS should staged a walk on the HIGHERUPs like all the other people do who feel they are being discriminated against.

If you dont smoke go to nonsmoking places!!!!!!!!!!!!  Plenty of them out there. Leave the smokers alone!!!!!!!!!

WORRY ABOUT THE FUTURE of Michigan and the Jobs before Picking on us little people.

What ever happened to the rights of smokers?  If some Bars and Restaurants want to go smoke-free , that is their choise.  Smokers have rights also.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

I travel alot!!!  Many states do have non-smoking restaurants but they also have smoking out side on patio's or they provide seating outside of the restaurants!  It should be optional one way or the other!!!  Non-smokers watch out because without the tax on our cig's that we buy YOUR taxes will increase too make up for the the cig's that we will not be buying any more due too not being able too smoke in public!  We live in a free country "I thought"---No,  I don't want too impose my habit on you but don't tell me what too do either!  When is it going too stop----the government telling us how too raise our kids, don't drink but on every holiday they are advertising parties on television--DRINKING  at downtown clubs at our festivals there are beer tents!  CLOSE THE BARS AND SMOKING STORES!  Soon the police will be coming into our homes just too check if there are cigarette butts or beer bottles!  What are we going back to the 1920's!!!! Bootlegging everything!!!!

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Yes, it should be up to the bar owners and restaurant owners whether to ban smoking. I don't go into anyone of them unless there is smoking.,or I just stay home and eat and smoke as much as I want. Besides, there are more IMPORTANT issues to ban or put into law right now and non smoking should not be one of them. What is this government coming to these days?

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Wikipedia citations are pretty weak if you want to make any kind of an arguement for a cause!

This governmental movement to ban smoking in restaurants and bars is a bi-partisan smoke screen(ha!) hatched to divert attention from the current, sheer incompetitance in the Michigan Legislature and Executive Office. I'd call it "collusion" between strange bedfellows. They have no idea, collectively, how to entice growth out of our stagnant economy; so they offer cake, when we're asking for bread!

Last I looked, "choice" was the actionable noun of this culture. So, let all the people express choice in where they spend disposable income. Don't let this legislature or this Governor impose draconian rules on the way we choose to live. We'll all live to regret the next freedom surrendered to an omnivorious government

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Thats right and we shouldnt have to go outside to have our rights. We have the right to sit back in restaurant and relax and talk without having to go freeze outside to enjoy something We Pay for and Pay for ALOT in taxes.

Re: Ban Smoking in Michigan Bars, Restaurants?

Yes it should be banned or restrictions so high that most bars and resterants will want to ban it them selves. I travel a lot and I do not see any of the states that have banned smoking hurting for customers. There are several resterants in our area that have banned it on their own and they have more customers now than whenthey allowed smoking.
