Of course the smoking ban should be passed!

It is common knowledge that simply having a non-smoking section within a restaurant does not prevent smoke from entering. Only a hermetically sealed portion of a restaurant, replete with a dedicated ventilation system would eliminate encroaching second hand smoke. Few restaurants go to this degree for non-smoking customers, hence my infrequent visits to restaurants or watering holes.

With a smoking ban, I and my family and sphere of friends would certainly go out and do our part to stimulate the local economy by visiting a wider assortment of establishments.

We have owned a bar & restaurant in Monroe,Mi for approximately 45 years.I have seen this businesss change over the previous years and not for the positive.We are a stand alone bldg and have paid numerous taxes for many years.I think we deserve a right to make our own decision as to allow smoking.We have traveled many places and I have inquired as to how the no smoking has affected businesses and it has had a negative effect on alot of businesses.I'm sure if I loose businesss to the non-smoking  establishment down the street I might reconsider my smoking stand.Please keep smaller businesss in operation and reconsider your stand, and allow smoking and non smoking establishments.Michigan business is in big trouble

I would think the government has better things to do beside getting into smoking/no smoking debates.

It is not againt the law.  I agree it should be banned from restaurants, but bars, casinos etc. give it a rest already.  Spend time going after drug dealers who are causing even more harm.

By the way, I am a non-smoker, quit about 6 years ago.

 

I am for the ban. If smokers realized how rude and offensive smoking is in public places, they might change their mind. As far as restaurant owners are concerened a ban on smoking would affect every establishment not just theirs.

Many restaurants just remove the ash tray from your table and call it non smoking. If they cannot provide a smoke free area for non smokers they should have to remodel to make smokers eat in a separate section that is partitioned off from  non smokers.

I KNOW that if they pass this ban I will have hubby buy cigarettes out of state of Mi.. as we wont give the taxes to Michigan no more. And we will not be going to restaurants or Bars unless we are in a different State where smoking is allowed in them!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not a smoker and have never been a smoker but I do believe this is not the right time for a ban on smoking I just don't know how muck more Michigan can stand to loose in the way of revenue I don't believe this is the time for a new law how many more businesses do we need to loose

I agree. I believe that now government uses fear in order to take away the rights of the citizens. In this case it is the fear of smoke. The media then takes this to a whole new level when they report biased stories on the issues in favor of the government.

The issue here is that government is pitching a fear of bad health in order to take rights from the BUSINESS OWNER. Any entrepreneur should have the right to accomodate those who help support their establishments. If someone doesn't like smoke, they don't have to support an establishment that allows smoking. If an establishment doesn't support smoking, people who do smoke don't have to go there.

Freedom of Choice needs to be protected here...in this case.

If you tell me today if I can't have smoking in my establishment, and most of my customers smoke, you are taking my business away while taking my freedom to choose what kind of environment I can offer the customers that support me.

Restaurant owners should have the choice weather they want your business or the smokers business. Smokers tend to stick around for a couple drinks after their meal, which in turn makes more money for the restaurant. There are non-smoking restaurants (BY CHOICE), such as Red Robbin. It is not about your or my right to smoke or not but it is about the right to run a small business in a manner that makes you the most profit!!!! By the way I am a non-smoker and don't own a restaurant. I do however know an owner that owns a few, the non-smoking one is not doing well. If they don't pass this law it will prob. start allowing smoking or they may have to close their doors.

I wonder why the government hasn't taken cigarettes off the market,and I suppose your one of those people that had a great deal on a automobile and are driving a foreign car,what ever works for you

Why is it that people make this issue into one that has to do with health. This is an issue of freedom.

The government shouldn't be responsible for keeping you healthy beyond making sure the food and drugs you take are safe and that the country is safe and FREE. We have become so lazy and forget that:

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR OWN HEALTH on a personal level.

If there is smoke at one bar or restaurant, and you don't like it....don't go there. The business owners are smart enough to notice if their customers are mostly ones that smoke or not and they should have the choice to ban smoking in their establishments, create a smoking area for smokers, or allow smoking.....DUH!

Americans need to take the power of Choice back into their hands...Stop giving the goverment the power to choose for you.

You are so right but Gov't. likes to pit one group against the other; strige keeps them in business.

If the Gov't. was genuinely concerned about the tobacco issue, they are the clows that subsidize growing it. Now if we couldn't buy tobacco, who would they rape for exorbiant

taxes? This is all about "people control" and how much we will tolerate. The elected have lost total insight as to what their job is suppose to be and it's not managing our personal lives! Protecting our lives ,property and borders would be a good place to start. Of

course that isn't politically correct to speak the truth.
