A Detroit City Council special investigative session into a police whistle-blower lawsuit settlement erupted into a yelling match when President Pro Tem Monica Conyers made claims that she was being disrespected.

 The argument began when Conyers asked an independent attorney who was testifying if the council could be sued by Detroit residents for approving the $8.4 million lawsuit settlement.

Councilwoman JoAnn Watson said: “They can sue you; I voted no.”

Conyers told Watson to stop interrupting and disrespecting her. She added: “We all know how you voted; you don’t have to keep repeating it.”

Moments later Conyers interrupted Council President Ken Cockrel as he was questioning Carl Edwards, the Detroit attorney. Cockrel reminded Conyers that he had the floor and banged his gavel repeatedly.

Conyers railed: “You’re not my Daddy. You’re not going to disrespect me. Grow up! Control your house and learn how to treat women.”

Cockrel told Conyers that she was “one to talk.”

As the council members yelled at each other, residents attending the hearings yelled, as well. “You’re disrespecting the citizens!” and “This is a shame!”

Cockrel took a quick recess to regain order before then breaking for lunch.

Your really out of sync, Coleman Young had these ideas back in the late 70's &  early 80's Casinos, RiverFront Projects; Businesses; etc., so Archer didn't START anything.  Heck, Pontiac sounds like it needs "Brooks" help, Police Fire & Schools so get your facts straight, Royal Oak; Ferndale uh isn't the School funds Bankrupt or on the verge of such ?  Didn't the Mayor of Royal Oak/Ferndale get caught with his mistress in the office... I don't know if anyone else saw Ms. Conyers' outburst earlier this afternoon.  Like I've said before - there is definately something going on between Ms. Conyers and the Mayor.  Somehow, she owes him big!!!  He must've done something for her in the past and she owes him or he knows something from her past and is holding it over her head.  Her outburst at the City Council Hearings is unexcuseable!!!   It's akin to a female high school bully trying to get her point or opinion heard by screaming, yelling and intimidation through name-calling.

There is no room on City Council for someone as irresponsible and childish as her.  She needs to be removed from City Council.  And, she herself, needs to be investigated.   I have long thought that there was something not right with her and her actions beginning with her being the only member to vote against the text messages being released.  And yesterday saying that Mr. Stefani "blackmailed" the Mayor and his lawyers.  And now with her outburst at the Hearings!!!  Shrek-Shrek!!!  That's what she called Mr. Cockrell.  My goodness - a City Council member acting like that and for no other reason except that she was asked not to interupt someone else as she herself not a few minutes before asked not to be interrupted.  Lady - you're the one that needs to "grow-up".

Sorry to say (not really), these antics among city council members have been going on for yearrrrrrrrrrrrs.  NOBODY RESPECTS THEM, NOT EVEN THEIR OWN LAW DEPT. LOL!!  I don't blame Mr. Johnson (chief corporate council).  WHY, ON EARTH WOULD YOU GIVE ANYTHING "to that body" for approval!  All of em' are just "figure heads".  They don't know a damn thing about LAW, RISK MANAGEMENT, SETTLEMENTS OR EVEN CITY GOVERNMENT for that matter!!  Their job is to do exactly what they did.  SIGN IT!  They act as though those officers should not have been compensated at all!  CITY COUNCIL, YA GOT TRICKED AND DISSED!!!!!!!!!!LOL!!!

I really must agree with you. I have never been ashamed to say I am from Detroit , but that has changed after all that has been said and done. The world must think we are all just like them. These people work for us and represent all of us ( what a shame) . The city was already going down with the Mayor and his THUGS!!!!!!   I think from now on I will just tell people I am from the Midwest at leave it at that. Shame on all of you !!!!!    Please show some CLASS when you know there are cameras...
