Laura56: Kathy 1007: sisterbobo:
Whites are not up in arms because the minute they say anything about race, Kwame screams louder about how it is all racial or racist.
Frankly, I think whites and surburbanites, in general, KNOW that one day Mr. Hip Hop will be history, just like others before him, and they will once again be welcome in the city. Detroit is 300 + years old and certainly strong enough to withstand the mayor with the morals of an alley cat.
Hi folks, just trying to catch up. I have been dealing with a very sick animal and been wiped out. I needed a break from the stress of so much injustice when it comes to Kwame. I just read the post about why don’t the white people object to the race card being used. Well he is my white 2 cents worth.
I think most black people do not realize how beaten up people of the white race have been over the last 10-15 years. Sometimes just keeping quiet is our way of avoiding conflict .WE ARE TIRED OF BEING BLAMED, or feeling like we are being blamed. It’s kind of the unspoken disease. Even though we choose our word very carefully so as not to be taken wrong we still get called racist. I didn’t see much feedback, I when I posted a few weeks back about the Black preacher coming to Detroit and how I thought that was sick and there should be a protest. I can’t remember his name but he blames the white race big time. Where as for years with slavery and discrimination being a very real and horrible thing, the tables have turned very drastically. Many, Many white people have lost employment and lively hoods because they spoke against what they felt was unfair advancement of co-worker due to their black race. Or were just the wrong race for the time in question. We all know that’s true. I actually heard one black person say to a white person when they expressed those same thoughts well now you know what it feels like. Why should that be an issue, we know, give us a little credit. I was very nervous responding to the writing “On being Black” like it was out of bounds for me. I personally saw it happen (job loss or demotion) many times at the Major Company I worked at. Good supervisors lost positions and a black man/workman was put in their position so the “COMPANY” could reach what was typically known as quotas. A white person would be fired or suspended for using the “N” word where as groups of blacks could use it as every other word in daily conversations without fear of repercussions. I heard, saw and experienced this many times. I lost a great supervisor and his black replacement knew nothing about the job and lasted a month. He didn’t even try even when we all tried to help. I personally think that many black people don’t see it as being remotely possible, that anyone white has it tough. Somehow we are all born with a silver spoon in our mouth. Like we have never had to struggle.
I personally was called racist once. In my job when there were bad storms we would often be sent to work in Detroit to get power back on. We all worked alone with no partners. I refused to go ALONE at night into Detroit to work and for this I was called racist. Hell its common sense to me. Guns, drugs, and the worst was the loose dogs that ran in packs. Hea I worked all alone, part of the job description, and I wasn’t going to go into the worst parts of Detroit a white woman by myself, and walk around in back yards at night, and I bet there is not one person on this sight that would, yet I was being racist. Well if that’s racist than I guess I am. This is a very sensitive issue for most white people. I am sure they would be afraid to be seen on TV expressing views relating to the race card. Companies today are just waiting to make an example out of someone so they can prove just how civilized they are. I don’t feel people on this sight are so much this way but occasionally I have seen comments but just said nothing because it usually backfires when I do. That’s why I wrote this long post because white people do feel outrage over the race card being played here but its not worth the frustration to say anything. So I believe that’s why you don’t see an up rising from the suburbs and the whites of Detroit. It ain’t worth it as it gets thrown in our face. Should I end with my typical “hope I didn’t offend anyone”? No, I just said what needed to be said and hopefully, really hopefully, enlightened some people because this is a problem that just does not get talked about, except between the same race people. We need to stop this us and them mentality. God forbid we actuall opened up to each other. Its really such a waste of time and energy. OK that mt white 2 cents worth. Time to go fight with my cat and ram the antibiotics down her cute little throat. That sounds bad, I love my Toby Cat, I was devastated but giving a cat medication is a war. Kathy
Hi Kathy - I asked the original question why whites aren't screaming their heads off and I want to thank you for your answer. It is wonderful and pretty much what I thought. I don't know the "white" experience, I've gone to school, taught, lived and loved whites but that isn't enough. (Like I'll never understand asparagus either.) I always thought that you (whites) were afraid to make waves (it's late, long day and I can't think of a better expression.) That if we (blacks) screamed racist that it would stop or change whatever was going to happen. Shame. When the MI Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action was reverse discrimination (paraphrasing) it was one of the best rulings that came down in a long time. Why? Because I thought that for the first time in our history that the race card would no longer be played and that there would be slowly a true "one America" as MLK spoke of. No more quotas, lame racist comments. Differences, sure but no more absolute dislike based on pigmentation. I'm not an idealist to think it was going to happen overnight, or even in a generation but I thought we would start mending a lot of anger and pain. Sadly, it hasn't happened. I wish that it would. Please anyone reading this I'm just trying to figure out a way to fight Kwame's card and I needed opinions and ideas. Thanks to all that gave them.
Kathy, Laura, sisterboo, great posts, each of you!
I concur with Kathy's explanation. As she states, we fear being called "racists" when we discuss anything that involves a black person. I've seen how many conservative commentators have gotten themselves in trouble in some of their language regarding race, and now even former Pres. Clinton has been called out for certain comments. Some people do in fact say things that are intended as pejorative, but many, many times certain comments are just taken wrong, or taken out of context. Geraldine Ferarro made an observation and was virtually crucified. I know Bill O'Reilly said he will NEVER mention topics regarding race ever again; he states he's been misquoted far too much.
And many people are afraid to critique Barack Obama in ANY way, lest they be accused of being racist. This is dangerous, because this guy might become our next president, and since he's so new to the political scene, it is imperative that we learn as much about him as we can.
Kwame's case seems just open and closed to 99.999% of the world. Yet his enablers, both black and white, are turning it into something else. We on the board and almost everyone else believe it's about him lying under oath, his misconduct in office and obstruction of justice. But his people are trying to set those things aside, hoping we forget that portion. Then they can just accuse the prosecutor, the court/jury system, the suburbs and anyone else of racism.
And it's strange that it's his "hip hop" persona that apparently got him elected! I remember reading during the last election that his opponent, Freeman Hendrix, was not deemed "black enough" (whatever that means). Sadly, the majority of the city seemed to fall for that line of reasoning; that attributes often associated with whites were bad and that they would be bad for the city. So we are clearly told by the majority electorate of Detroit that we and our attributes are not desired there.
Laura, I definitely agree with you on the affirmative action issue. I can certainly see how it was needed at one point in time, but after 40 or 50 years, any positive aspect of it has probably diminished. Many minorities admitted to certain programs or hired on to certain jobs are perceived as being less qualified, as people tend to think they got those positions solely due to affirmative action programs. And this is simply not true in many cases. It's the concept of the "bigotry of low expectations", and is probably quite detrimental to black people, especially to those in professional areas.
I should probably get to sleep soon, and I hope I didn't write anything offensive to anyone. But isn't this case something else - here were are talking about race, when we should be discussing guilt or innocence, evidence, court proceedings, etc. But that is what has happened here - instead of Kwame standing up and admitting his wrongs, he is attempting to divide the city among itself, the city and the suburbs, you name it. If he wants to blame anyone for causing divisiveness, he can start with himself, his "pastors" and his legal team.

StrawberryPal: Laura56: keo10: StrawberryPal: duchess:I don't think anyone ignores you! And if I am invited, I would like to be included. Actually it seemed to me that the television stations and newspapers were doing a lot less coverage of the scandal, and I was thinking they would stop this board soon. The Freep has cut their coverage down a lot. So if someone does set up another place, please count me in!
Well, I think it is a great way for all of us regulars to stay in touch and keep each other informed on whats going on, and the community of "like minded" people could actually grow. I joined one to quit smoking and it was great! You have the choice to go to the boards website or have all the messages sent to your e-mail. You may respond or add to the discussion through e-mail or you can add directly do it on the board. Sort of like we do now. It is posted. The moderator over sees the group and makes sure people don't become disrespectful vulgar or abusive to any of the members. However, the moderator usually starts the group! .Yes, it has slowed down quite a bit. However, I am sure that there will be some blockbuster news coming soon. Here is the directions on how to do it. It is free!
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups/original/
StrawberryPal, You just recently joined this forum you seem anxious that we "like minded" people form a community email group? I think I will stay here for now.
Im with you keo, I couldn't understand why that thread got started or why it took off. There has been no threat to remove this forum and for giggles anyone can go to the forum section of WXYZ and look, comment, on any of their old forums. Just bookmark it and we can continue to talk to each other. Like minded or not.
I guess its like what I said to begin with. I just offered an Idea. I thought we as a group could move on and grow. I also mentioned how most of my posts were ignored. I also stated I thought that maybe Missy, Laura56(especially you Laura, I thought you were level headed),MiaMia,Gene (Gene is cool because he has an agenda and he sticks to it!)could be great moderators. I thought it was a great Idea to start a forum to continue our discussions and expand our ideas....As a fricken group!. Lets face it. This forum is not going to go on forever. Especially when it narrowing down to the same 10 people. I guess I will move on and let "you all continue to bit-ch moan and grown, till they turn off the light." I will no longer be a part of this little coffee clutch, I never was. I now understand why Tantra and all the rest of the folks left this forum...I am outta here. You don't give a rats a$$ about change...You just want to bi-tch! I am so sorry that I even thought for a moment that you people cared...You are all about Hate! You either are stuck in the city and you can't leave or You are a neo-conservative and "hate" liberalism. Lets blame the democratic governor (its all her fault that the stupid asses that live in the city voted him in) Use that Jive ass Hip-hop Mayor to prove your point ... its because he is a Black Democratic ...Well go ahead and have your bitchfest! You all will continue to bit-ch and not do one frickin thing about it! I have been around more then you can be aware of. It took a long time for me to finally post. (like since January). I am so sorry that I even tried to express anything I felt! GOOD NIGHT....DON'T LET YOU 'ALL COCKROACHES BITE.
Strawberry: Maybe I am reading into something that just isn't there. You are always commenting on your post being ignored. Many posts don't get a response. You brought up a suggestion, some responded with a whatever others expressed a "let's hold on for now with what is here." My posts don't provide a wealth of information and resources I simply don't have the type of knowledge yet I continue to post regardless. I read the responses....I didn't feel anyone was attacking in a nasty vicious way to warrant us being bit by cockroaches. :) I actually have my hands full with squirrels.
If you feel you need to remove yourself for whatever reasons than do what is best for you.
Laura: the kids refer to asparagus as "those green sticks." They have a hard time understanding how people "in the suburbs" can eat "those things" They didn't know what they were called or that they even were a vegetable. This is a high school population not elementary.

duchess:I have no idea where, but I read somewhere that channel 7, the Freep and the News were all being sued by the Kwame camp. That is what made me think that coverage was getting lighter. Suing the media is similar to using the EPU to bump into people to clear the way for Kwame!
I am not yet centered this morning :) so I could easily go into a rant. :) kk will sue anything and anyone to keep the chaos churning. The more he applies this technique ...it is a very well mastered technique of creating "spins" ...the more confusion there is which makes it difficult to zoom in and expose him and his moves for what it really is. Sociopaths are gifted with this technique and he has a network system in place that enhances this devious skill. I agree with your analogy of bumping and suing :) There was a mention somewhere that the Kwane Camp has initiated a lawsuit.

Re: Wayne County Judges will Hear Case
Laura56: keo10: RANTUCCI30:
Lived and paid taxes in Detroit. Moved and now work in the suburbs. My house is for sale. Anybody want to buy it? My taxes have increased yet the "fair market value" on my house has and is still dropping significantly ( I know-preaching to the choir-we are all in the same boat). With talk from Lansing about raising taxes yet again and king kk with all of his "grand ideas" about his stimuLATE package with no reasonable funding for this in sight; I feel that I am about to pay a whole lot more. Guess where he will be going for his funding??????? Anyone??????Anyone????? The suburbs of course!!!!!! I don't care what anyone says about the suburbs having no say in what happens in Detroit; when Detroit fails; we all fail. Doesn't anyone understand this???Well, I for one don't want to give another d$$$ cent to him, his family, his friends, his wh$$$$, or Detroit for that matter. Enough is enough. Also, for any of the move on or pro-kk bloggers. I can throw stones because I don't live in a full glass house. Yes, I have done some things that weren't great in my lifetime but I can honestly say that
1. I have not cheated on my spouse
2. I have not stolen money from other people. As a matter of fact, I have had this done to me before and the criminal got away with it. I almost feel like I am a victim again; especially if things turn out like I think they will.
3. I have not taken advantage of anyone for monetary or any other type of gains.
4. I give back to society what I can at the expense of not becoming a burden to society myself.
5. I have volunteered at shelters and helped out with mentor programs.
After watching Steve's report of king kk and his "kickbacks" from flying and partying at LA, Hollywood, Bermuda, and Florida and reading the commentary from the reporter Rochelle(sorry can't remember her last name), I am convinced that nothing will be done to him. I agree; let him be. It will unfortunately cost the city a lot of money to try and I say TRY and prosecute him. Why bother? Save the money and try to rebuild Detroit so that maybe I CAN sell my house. Let's hope that kk won't be elected again in 2009 because we all know that he is planning on running for mayor again. Let's hope that the citizens of Detroit have enough sense to protest this outrageous miscarriage of justice and not vote for him. Unless he has enough people under his command or bank account to win him yet another election, I can't really see this happening. If it does, then Detroit really deserves what happens to it.
BTW, why aren't the FEDS looking into this???? I know there are politicians that have been kicked out or had to resign from congress for taking kickbacks; much like king kk.
Such a sad day..... I pray for Detroit, its future, and my quest to sell my house.
This is a little folk lore but it worked for me. Buy a little statue of St. Joseph at the religious store and bury it in your yard - I buried my in front under the windows, and within a few weeks it sold.
Why the little statue of St. Joseph? Sorry, never heard of it.......
Joseph, Jesus's earthly farther, is the patron saint of home and family in the Catholic religion. This dates back to the middle ages, but became popular in the US in the 80's. I was surprised when I purchased mine little statue the clerk told me many people do this. You are supposed to dig it up and take it with you and put it in a place of honor. Some believe leaving the statue buried will cause the land to continue changing hands.
I just learned that I should have dug it up and taken it with me..This is unbelievable but the couple (early 30's) that purchased my home divorced within a year and sold to another couple (early 50's) and he died within two years of living there of a heart attack. I am not kidding, I know this because my husband was a builder and stayed in contact with both families.

Laura56, I work at one of our large Universities and want you to know that the young people that I meet and work with each day do not have that racist mentality. They see each other for the person they are and not because they are black or white. They exchange ideas, feel each others pain and happiness. They take the black and white friends back home to meet their parents - they are and will be life long friends without racist thoughts. We do have a new generation coming up so that some day racist comments will no longer be acceptable - I personally am sick of the race card - Kwame's attorney's are supposed to be educated men but they continue to bring up the race card. I find this disgusting!
Also, I think many of us white people are screaming, calling and sending emails to our elected officials in Lansing and Washington. Every time I call Grandholm, the lines are jammed. We all have to keep up the good fight!

Hi Keo - I too work at a major university, wonder if we're co-workers? Can't miss me, 6',skinny, mahogany skin, with "the" blue eyes! Anyway, I know that the kids are starting to live together without the animosity, which is probably one of the best things I've seen in years. I'm happy about it. Maybe within 10 years or so the race card won't be a factor, just another ugly sign of our generation. Other things have faded with time and I hope the card does to. I'm trying to understand the impact now and with the wonderful insights given in these postings I've gotten a feel for what is happening. I just want to diffuse Kwame's card.

rocketsrdglare: sisterbobo:
Whites are not up in arms because the minute they say anything about race, Kwame screams louder about how it is all racial or racist.
Frankly, I think whites and surburbanites, in general, KNOW that one day Mr. Hip Hop will be history, just like others before him, and they will once again be welcome in the city. Detroit is 300 + years old and certainly strong enough to withstand the mayor with the morals of an alley cat.
sisterbobo - I totally agree with your comment, however, I wish the mayor ONLY had alley cat morals. I don't care about his mistresses, strippers, hook-ups, or philandering. These traits are a requirement of a modern day politician.
I am concerned with the theft, malfeasance, deception, obstruction of justice and race-baiting by this pig of a mayor.

THE KILPATRICK CRIME FAMILY
duchess:One more thought on this subject. I don't think many whites put any emphasis of being white. Maybe sometimes a person will say "I'm irish" or even Irish American, but it is really rare. Ohhhhh, Can anyone of you imagine if a Mayor in the suburbs was accused of not being white enough? I don't think that would go over very big in any suburb in Detroit. To me... Not being white enough conjures an Aryan Image.. because not being white enough means you may have black blood, Mexican Blood, Jewish Blood. Therefore, you would not best suited to lead a government that would serve predominantly "white interest's". So, when I hear that there is a black element of people that Didn't like Dennis Archer because he wasn't black enough or they didn't vote for Hendrix because he wasn't Black enough is outright racism. Unfortunately, racism is alive and well on both sides of the table. A racial divide has always haunted Metro Detroit.(since the '67 riots) As long as the Kilpatrick Crime Family control the city of Detroit...They will have to assert that wedge of the "us against them" to keep their people from voting for their best interest.. The KCF will always keep those racist flames burning.

Re: Mayor's Scandal: Prosecutor's Decision
This whole ordeal shows the huge seperation in citizen's idea of what is legal and what one should get away with. Any 5th grader who listens to the testimony from the two, and then reads the text messages, knows the MAYOR is an ADULTERER and his girlfriend and him both lied in court.
Any religious leader who comes to the adulterous mans defense shows how he does not represent the biblical views. Rather too many pastors are on the gravy train and enamored with glitz since they do not hold fund raisers for other criminals...
It is time for the citizens to stop hoping Kwame gets away with it, and start demanding better of their government.
