I hate what has happened here in Michigan. I live in Port Huron where I own a home that I cannot sell. I work in Ypsilanti - on the St. Joseph Hospital campus for a multi-specialty physician group as a project manager. When I bought my home in Port Huron in 2000 I worked in Port Huron. That job is no longer there. The unemployment rate in Port Huron has been higher than the rest of the state of Michigan for several years. When the auto's started outsourcing to China, India, Mexico in the late 90's and early 2000's -- the companies that use to supply the plactic parts for GM, Ford and Chrysler went out of business. The contracts and jobs were gone. I commute 180 miles every day - 90 miles each way. I drive close to 1,000 miles a week to get to my job. I have a choices -- I can pay for an apartment locally in the Ypsi/Ann Arbor area AND pay a mortgage, I can walk away from my house and let it go back to the bank like a lot of my neighbors have done or I can drive 90 miles one way to work. I drive -- right now it still costs less than having an apartment and a mortgage. I fill up every day to keep  my vehicle above a half a tank -- today that fill up was over $27 - a bit over 7 gallons - I get about 26 - 27 mpg in my vehicle. I pay this every day Monday through Friday. I'm 51 years old and eligible to donate to a 401K now where I work -- I can't. My 401 goes into my gas tank along with lunches out (bring my lunch), trips up north - (can't afford to pay for MORE gas). I've tried to organize a car pool along the 94 corridor from Port Huron to Ypsi -- but can't find anyone interested. I'm planting a vegetable garden soon -- I want to can my veggies this year, make pickles, freeze sweet corn. I have to cut where I can to pay for gas. The Federal and State government doesn't seem to care. The big oil companies -- they absolutely don't care. Solutions? I'm waiting.

I am boycotting any summer traveling out of town. I  also try to do my errands once or twice a week in close proximity of each other. I have started walking, also. But its ashame work, parents, & church  are too far from each other to walk. I wish I could keep a mule.

HOW LONG  are we going to put up with THE GOVERNMENT mandating laws they have NO business getting involved in/?!!    The LIB DEMS have not let us drill for our OWN OIL or build our OWN  refineries for many years!!   At the same time our and the world's needs for energy have continued to increase!!!    These enviro wackos want us to all go broke, so a snail or bird, etc can be protected!!    How about the human race being able to eat and buy gas to go to work??    To these STUPID DEM LIBS that is secondary!!!    At the same time that they won;t let us drill our own oil of build refineries, they LOAD gas with taxes and regulations exponentially, resulting in even HIGHER PRICES!!   Just wait unitl the summer gas EDICT that Slick n Hil mandated comes into effect!!   The refineries are required by the  LAW that they put into effect to produce a different gas for every region and city so we can save ostensibly 1% in pollution  vs: gas going up another 10-15 cents a gallon!!!    I don't know about you but I cannot afford gas to go up even more!!   What is the LIB DEM  solution,,, oh yea,   instead of drilling for oil, burn our food!!!!!!,,,,ethanol from corn!!!

How much more are we going to stand for??!!!   Unfortunately, with half of the country even considering to elect the IDIOTS who got us in this MESS, we don;t have much hope!!!

McCain is no prize either, but DEFINITELY the best of 3 bad options!!!

I have been taking more bike rides locally.  I rode my 10 speed bike to work 77 times 20 miles round trip.  With energy prices going through the roof why doesn't  the President lower the speed limits as a way to save fuel as was done during the oil embargo in the 70's? I will continue to suggest a NATION WIDE VOLUNTEER do not drive day /days on Saturday and/or Sunday as way to lower demand, prices, pollution levels, and obesity.

Maybe our Govenor should raise our income taxes again, that seems to be her fix for everthing.

I have been forced to make changes a long time ago due to the high gas prices and my fixed income.  Unfortunately I did not die while still employed and I am currently passing through sick so I cannot work.  I had the wrong attitude about work situations from the beginning and felt it better to serve in the military and then in civilian life to perform some kind of service to the public from what I did.  In so doing my retirement consists of Social Security and a small Disability payment.

 

I have had to consolidate my VA doctor visits to the same day if possible but no more than two days in any given month.  I get very irritated and make my family is disgusted with me each and every time I hear about the record profits of the oil companies and the Outlandish bonuses given to certain CEO's of major companies. 

 

I think it is about time to take some of those record profits from the Oil Companies and tax the hell out of them then use the money to bring down the price of gas!!

With gas prices so high why hasn't the President enacted a Nation wide 55 mph as a way to save fuel?  Perhaps because he has an investment in the oil companies.

hm, maybe we need more refineries, to drill in this country and a few more power plants.  Let's see it's been 30 years on the refineries and power plants and the caribou have demonstrated that the pipeline doesn't hurt them.  Who would be blocking this? Who in their right mind?

Why aren't the news stations going after the gas companys who reported
a 42 billion dollar profit and finding out why our government is letting them
get away with such high gas prices.  I blieve in everyone making a profit
not raping people.   (HALL OF SHAME for sure)

And why aren't are government big shots taking pay cut's or downsizing like the rest of us.

If people have any kind of backbone they will boycott the ones who are sticking it

There is only one sure way to get the gas prices to come down.  Stop buying it.  Just buy enough to get to work, and get to the food store.  If we stay home and not let the oil companies get our money... they will get the picture.

Did anyone happen to just catch the gentleman they interviewed at the gas station in Birmingham? What a pompous a$$. Cran Jones said "I don't know how people are doing it (with gas prices being so high.) I mean, we've cut back, and yeah I live in Bloomfield Hills, but we've cut back vacation-wise ourselves because we can't afford it." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Who in the hell does this guy think he is?

I wish that the Department of Homeland Security would get their act together and declare ALL CEO AND BOARD MEMBERS OF ALL OIL COMPANIES as DOMESTIC TERRORISTS and THROW THEM ALL IN PRISON!!!  There should be a level of greed that once exceeded becomes a CRIMINAL OFFENSE punishable by a lengthy PRISION STAY!!

 

Everyone should include all Oil Company Execs in there nightly prayers and pray for those Execs to have the most horrible maladies infected upon then.  In other words MAY A POX BE UPONEYOU, YOU OIL SOB!!

I don't know if Eric Smith reads this; he commented that a gas station near his house was $3.96 this am. Last night around 4:30 pm here in northern macomb county the prices were $4.09.

If the federal government were to increase it's oil reserves and periodically release a whole lot of it just as options are about to expire they could really burn a whole lot of these greedy speculators. This would add a lot more risk to this type of investment and make a lot of them a little more hesitant to invest. This whole business is so crazy to begin with. The SEC didn't do the public any favors when they permitted those commodity exchanges (ETF's) to trade on something that is so necessary to our daily existence. I swear, if they could trade the air we breath or water we drink they would! Their greed is unparalleled in our history. It is not driven by supply and demand. I agree totally with Saudi Arabia. Do not produce anymore oil since it also will be gobbled up by these pigs. We could all be literally swimming in oil and the price would still be high. When the bubble finally bursts I hope that as many of these pigs as possible lose everything!
