Camping plans and extra trips have been cancelled due to the excessive greediiness for gas prices being so high. It's a wonder we can make it to work on a daily basis. All extra monies are gone. How about that stimulous package, are you putting all of that in your gas tank?
This is so rediculous no wonder why Michigan is having such a hard time. This is ruining all of our tourist trade as well. It is affecting the United States as a whole and there has to be a way to put a cap or these rising gas prices.

Mike, you are one of the few here who understand the problem. While Cheney/Bush & their cronies are almost assuredly heavily-invested in oil, I suspect that they are really not the largest part of the problem - though they could have an effect on it if they really wanted to. These clowns are really not that smart - just greedy war-profiteers. They do have the power to come down on Wall Street very hard; however, they are very much in bed with them, and the Federal Government is loaded with former Wall Street types who have been placed there for at least two decades.
Certainly, Bush is responsible for signing into law that stupid congressional bill ordering the nation's corporate farms to produce scores of billions of gallons more of ethanol (alcohol) fuel to try to reduce our dependence on gasoline. Very few cars currently on the road can safely burn it, the cost of converting your car to run on E-85 would cost $2-to-3 thousand, and farmers are forced to stop growing millions of acres of other food crops and plant corn instead for processing into alcohol. This brilliant pseudo-think has fed the flames by running-up the price of all kinds of foods (commodities) and creating food shortages around the world.
And as long as Cheney/Bush insist on populating the Mideast desert with our military, their ginormous thirst for fuel to power tanks, planes, troop carriers, etc will continue to keep fuel prices high here in the U.S. Apparently, the Iraq/Afghanistan war will not end until some amazing miracle from above taps Bush or Cheney on the shoulder.
The heart of this problem is on Wall Street and in the top tier of world financial markets. They have succeeded in turning virtually anything they want into a commodity (oil, ethanol, wood, steel, copper, 47 kinds of food, ...) that they trade as futures prices. This is nothing more than high-stakes gambling with the money supplied to the big Wall Street-type firms by all Americans who invest(?) in anything through these firms (ie: Your Money).
You are Right-On when you point to the speculators as the cause of the entirely-unjustified run-up in oil prices, currently at least twice the true value of oil. And no matter what they claim about potential shortages of oil (and broken pipelines, political strife in 3rd-world countries, etc) there is plenty of oil available any day of the week for many decades to come - and untold-billions of barrels waiting to be discovered all over the world, including in the U.S.
At this point, the ONLY things that U.S. consumers can do to force oil prices down are to buy less of it, do not invest in it, and demand that the government allow drilling for oil off the East & West coasts and in that small portion of ANWAR in Alaska. For many, the choices are not pleasant, but that's what we've allowed our (leaders?) to do to us. By the way, I have never had an interest in Wall Street, oil companies, lawyers, or government (except to reduce our need for any of them).
The other choice we have is to clean house:
Throw-out Cheney/Bush and all of their appointees & oil buddies, and any congressional types linked to oil companies & Wall Street. Pull-out of Iraq & Afghanistan, and let them live as they have for the last several millenia. And, Do Not allow any more Oil or Wall Street types (or lawyers, for that matter) to occupy the WhiteHouse or Congress!

ghost 01:I see from the posts that people are making drastic changes without the facts. Example: A round trip to Frankenmuth from Detroit is about 180 miles. If your car is getting about 25mpg the trip in gas would cost $14 at 2 dollars gal. $21 at 3 dollars per gallon and $28 with gas costing 4 dollars. The cost at the pump seems like alot however when broken down it is not that much. A good idea would be to keep trips and vacatons within a certian radius and take advantage of the things we have in this State. The best way to save gas costs is planning the day to day trips.
It's a month later, four days before the holiday weekend starts. By this weekend, gas prices will be $4 dollars a gallon. And it's a good bet that the individuals who are re-arranging travel plans for this summer, are the one's who don't have the readily available cash for what would be considered a luxury. There will always be a significant difference between a necessity, and a luxury.
Which in turn leaves other avenues to be explored for entertainment, amusement, and constructive passing of one's time. Since the exchange rate is about the same now Canada is an option. The Grand Prix, The Hydro Plane Races, just to name a few. It's definitely plenty to do, you just have to re-evaluate the when's, and the how's.

PLEASE LOOK THIS UP ON THE INTERNET ''GULL ISLAND ALASKA''.
There are several oil wells on this island, there is at least enough oil for our country to las 200 years. BUT our government has ordered them CAPPED. I believe president bush is trying to ruin this country, and he and his pals are doing a very good job. How come nothing has been told to the public about these oil wells to the American people?
The people in Washington are voted by the people---EVERYONE of us should know about this. The wells are on an island--not endangering any animals or other wildlife---and our President wants drill in an area that would endanger already endangered animals---KNOWING that there is oil already available on Gull Island. Also I found out on the above site--most of the oil from PRUDOE BAY is being sold to Japan. PLEASE READ ABOUT GULL ISLAND AND MOST IMPORTANT--------REPORT ABOUT IT ON YOUR NEWS-----PLEASE DO NOT LET OUR GOVERNMENT STOP YOU FROM REPORTING. Thank You, Karen Cook kmjwcook@att.net

HOW LONG are we going to put up with THE GOVERNMENT mandating laws they have NO business getting involved in/?!! The LIB DEMS have not let us drill for our OWN OIL or build our OWN refineries for many years!! At the same time our and the world's needs for energy have continued to increase!!! These enviro wackos want us to all go broke, so a snail or bird, etc can be protected!! How about the human race being able to eat and buy gas to go to work?? To these STUPID DEM LIBS that is secondary!!! At the same time that they won;t let us drill our own oil of build refineries, they LOAD gas with taxes and regulations exponentially, resulting in even HIGHER PRICES!! Just wait unitl the summer gas EDICT that Slick n Hil mandated comes into effect!! The refineries are required by the LAW that they put into effect to produce a different gas for every region and city so we can save ostensibly 1% in pollution vs: gas going up another 10-15 cents a gallon!!! I don't know about you but I cannot afford gas to go up even more!! What is the LIB DEM solution,,, oh yea, instead of drilling for oil, burn our food!!!!!!,,,,ethanol from corn!!!
How much more are we going to stand for??!!! Unfortunately, with half of the country even considering to elect the IDIOTS who got us in this MESS, we don;t have much hope!!!
McCain is no prize either, but DEFINITELY the best of 3 bad options!!!
How right you are!

Re: Mich Congressman Mike Rogers Energy Independent Plan - HR Bill 6161
Congressman Mike Rogers has a good plan that you can read about on his website: http://www.mikerogers.house.gov/
This bill would help to diversify our oil supply and explore renewable energy sources. If you like what you read he would like you to sign his "Declaration of Energy Independence". We have someone in Congress that is trying to make changes for the good of the people. Be sure to scan down the page for all the info. Congress Mike Rogers was on WJR with Frank Beckman this morning and within a day or so you can go to the WJR, Frank Beckman page and hear the interview.
Gas prices are keeping our pockets empty we have to do something now!
Find and contact your representative at: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.shtml

Don't forget, though, that in Michigan we are taxed twice on each gallon. The first tax was put in by Engler with the stipulation that if ever gas went over $2.00 a gallon it would be repealed (Jennifer removed the stipulation as soon as gas went over $2.00 a gallon), and the second tax is the sales tax on each gallon. That is why gas is cheaper in Ohio.
How right you are!
Ethanol is going to cause a lot of damage to the country. There will be food shortages everywhere because of so much corn being planted and sold for ethanol. And Jennifer thinks it is the wave of the future of Michigan. How or why she was reelected is a mystery to me.

Keo10: This won't necessarily be a simple task, but there are a few things that will simplify it.
Ask your U.S. House & Senate members at one of their local meetings: (Do you or your wife/husband have any financial interest in oil companies or related industries? / Did you vote FOR or AGAINST starting the war with Iraq or Afghanistan? / Have you voted FOR or AGAINST funding for the Iraq or Afghanistan wars? / Do you or your wife/husband have any financial interest in any company associated with the Military-Industrial Complex, especially Halliburton; Bechtel; Kellogg, Brown & Root; General Dynamics; or any firms in Dubai; ...).
Ask yourself: (Does this person seem to support continuing the war? / Does this person engage in fear-mongering, appearing to be protecting you? / Does this person ever "tell-it-like-it-is", even though it's bad news and may cause you to sacrifice something significant; OR does this person mostly agree with you and pander to you?)
Beyond that, you pretty much have to dig-up their voting record.
You could even decide to vote for NOBODY, or for anyone EXCEPT a Democrat or Republican. Remember, you are not obligated to choose between the lesser of two evils; that choice is what the two major parties depend on when they nominate candidates that you don't particularly care for! As long as EITHER of the two major parties are in control, nothing much will ever change. YOU have to change the situation.
Oil & the military-industrial complex have become All-Powerful over the last 5-6 decades, especially the last two! They will only continue pushing this country in the direction it's headed - UNTIL the people decide they will accept no more. Since 1963, this country has almost-consistently become increasingly militaristic, in an attempt to mold the planet to our (government's) desires.
