Re: Detroit Mayor's Text Message Sex Scandal

This issue isn't about the mayor having an affair it is about him lying under oath and people being disciplined for knowledge of what was happening. This stopped being an "extremely personal and painful period of his life", as the mayor claims, once he lied about it under oath. If he and his wife had come to terms with it, as he says, then why lie and cost the city millions? An affair a private matter? Yes. Committing perjury to hide the affair and costing the city millions and ruining the lives of the police officers, VERY PUBLIC!!!!!!!

Re: Detroit Mayor's Text Message Sex Scandal

The mayor and his cheif of staff are humans just like Bill Clinton, Rudy Juliani, Mike Cox, all the way back to Thomas Jefferson. So why are we surprised? Why do we expect political leaders to be free of sin? We should not judge. However, they should not have used city money and privaleges for their personal indescretions. Why should tax paying citizens pay nine million dollars to settle the law suit? I think the city should seek damages or reimbursement for the cost of the suit. He should be able to finish his term (if he can hold his head up) but without pay, he has cost us enough money.

It wasn't our business until he lied under oath about it. I think he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We are suppose to look up to our elected officials not be ashamed of them. An ordinary citizen who lied under oath would be facing prejury charges - so should he and his girlfriend.

Ha! I always knew Steve Wilson was right!!  What a shame that the City of Detroit was bilked out of millions of dollars because of this creep - money that could have been better spent to clean up the city and provide housing for people who are down and out. Shame on these two! And for Kwame to say  that he wishes people would not make it tough for Beatty's kids? What! YOU two made it tough for her kids and yours!  This wasn't caused by the people.

You stood oustide that mansion last August and ranted and raved about how innocent you were then you went inside and texted Beatty about meeting her at the Residence Inn THAT night!! I hope she NEVER gets a license to practice law!

You and your wife worked things out years ago??  Obviously she thought she had - you knew better. You are a loser and a cheat - step down from your post and your marriage. Give your family and the City a chance to make a new start without you.

It shows clearly that hes a liar, and can't be trusted. Would you want a liar who can't be trusted running ANYTHING important?

This information was on it's way down the pike sooner or later...why would he put himself in the position of "choosing" to commit perjury.. denying those men  the right to the TRUTH......He had plenty of time to open these floodgates himself....because of his selfishness and arrogance, he now has to pay the piper because the "fat lady is singing!"

It is time the Mayor resignes, and takes his girlfrind with him.  That the hell has this city come too.  Nothing but a bunch of liars and cheats.  They both need to reimburse the city back for all their hotel and motel bills...

Re: Detroit Mayor's Text Message Sex Scandal

It is obvious that what Mayor Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty did "under oath" is wrong.  However, what Mayor Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty has done is no different than what President Bill Clinton did when he lied "under oath" that he did not "have sex with that woman".  Was he impeached?  Was he prosecuted?  Did he loose his influence as President of the United States?  He is not considered to be the "first black President" by the the black community? Why is it that we want to pass judgment and seek the harshest treatments on one another?  Sure they weren't very smart to use "texting" and to conduct their communications on city issued apparatus; but who are we to begin to pass judgment and demand for him to "step down"?

Re: Detroit Mayor's Text Message Sex Scandal

I've said it before and I guess it needs repeating. It's time for Detroit to wake up and wipe the sleep from your eyes and see what kind of a man ( and I use that term loosely) you have elected again. If you think it is ok for the person who is supposed to set and example for the city to lie to your face and misuse your money for his benefit then you all get what you deserve. If anyone should know the difference between right and wrong it should be an attorney elected as Mayor don't ya think? But......no you as a city let him keep doing what he does and thinks it's ok. Well if it was you or I who got caught committing perjury in a court of law don't ya think we would be behind bars? Just because he is mayor he should be exempt from the laws? You people really need to research your candidates and realize that you have the say of who runs your city. Why would you vote in a man that looks like a  pimp?  Thinks he is all that with his big rock in his ear and his expensive clothes and cars guess what... all on your dime.... DO US ALL A FAVOR..... ELECT HIM AGAIN FOOLS  lmao!

I completely agree. Kwame should resign. If Bill Clinton can be impeached for lying underoath, then why not Kwame? Yes, this is a personal issue to some extent, but nobody should be above the law!!If Kwame would lie underoath about this, then why should we believe ANYTHING HE SAYS at any other given time. The people of Detroit deserve better than this.

Re: Detroit Mayor's Text Message Sex Scandal

Mr. Kilpatrick should be tried on perjury charges just like any other American would be.    The law is the law.  He is definetly no different then any other person in this the United States. He should immediately step down as mayor of Detroit and let someone else take over. Someone who can be more truthful then Kwame should be able to do a far better job, there has been trouble with Kwame since he took over the reigns including the illicit Escalade incident. He knows he did wrong and so does Ms. Beatty.  Send them both to jail and the city of Detroit would be far better off.

Mayor Kilpatrick and Chief of Staff Beatty are both very talented individuals. They are intelligent hardworking visionaries. It is sad that their careers and hardwork will now and forever go down in history as: The Mayor who sold the city out for $9 million worth of %#$@! I am sooo hurt.
