Re: Council Moves to Oust Mayor

If the City Council works with the Mayor the council should of been aware of any and all things that the Mayor and his friends were doing  in their position.  If the City Council does what they were doing yesterday when I was watching on the internet during their meeting, they were aproving many things, so it seems like they had to be aware of any and all things that the Mayor and his friends and family were doing that was right or wrong.  So to me the city Council is just as much in fault as the Mayor with any wrong doing.  All of the city council should be asked to resign if the Mayor is going to be asked to resign.  They were just as wrong as the Mayor to have let every thing go on for such a long time and they had to aprove or dis aprove any and all things that the council and the mayor and his friends have done.

    lestersndrs:
why are we wasting time and money on motions that  will bog down in court longer than the mayer have time in office ,he will not win reelection in this city, and will more than likly wind up in prison soon after the council was not so detailed in handing over 9million dollars thak they can't get back so let us spend the time and money we have left being more detailed in city business, and let the law have their turn at rectifying the cituation with K. KILPATRICK.  we must move on and we can't if the council remain bogged down in this matter.

    ****************

If Kwame would resign along with a few of the council, we ALL would be able to move on! The biggest distraction to the city running smoothly is Kwame Kilpatrick.

    James,

Your first sentence says it all:

"If the City Council works with the Mayor the council should of been aware of any and all things that the Mayor and his friends were doing  in their position."

However, you forgot a very important part. The Council tried to work with the mayor, but the mayor HAS NOT worked with the council.... secret deals for $24,000 so Council wouldn't have to approve, lies, deception. A smoothly working government is a two way street. Kwame only wants things one way, his way. Not what is good for the city, but what enriches Kwame.

Greene is the dancer that is said to have performed at a long-rumored, but never proven wild part at the Manoogian Mansion.

Action News has reported on problems at the Detroit Police crime lab.

The state is now auditing selected cases on a random basis.

But the Greene case has been hand-picked for an audit.
They are going to nail that mobster to the cross yet.

    tantra:

I agree and support the members of The Detroit City council decision to remove Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office.  He does not have the best interest of the city or its residents.  He is ineffective as a mayor.  Govoner Granholm will not step in to have him remove either she fears political ramifications for herself.  The mayor should have to pay back the city out of his salary as a form of retribution for malfeasance of city tax dollars to hide his affair and ruin two good poliece officers careers because of his own selfish behavior.  He is not any positive role model to even his own children.  If Christine Beatty is a smart woman she cop a plea bargain send his sorry butt to jail where he belongs.

Granholm can't run for re-election... so she doesn't care about the politics. If Granholm went to remove Kwame, without him being convicted, without her being asked to do so by Council, or State Representatives or Senators, there would be a riot, literally. There are 8 State Senators from Wayne County, there are 23 State Representatives from Wayne County. None of them have done a THING. It was Rep. Law from Commerce Township that finally made a move last week, and of course the Mayor's office claims that Mr. Law has no compassion for the City. What a crock. I just don't get why everyone thinks it is Granholm's job to come in and remove him at this point. Like it or not... KK was elected by the people of Detroit... TWICE.

As much as we all may dislike the justice system at this point, the bottom line is, it's the best out there and we don't live in a country that you can just remove an elected official because YOU "know" he has done wrong. It takes more of a legal concensus than that folks. It's called democracy. If you don't like it, I hear Fidel Castro has room on the island :)

Well said! There are some people that have this crazy notion that the Govenor Should step in like some communist dictator and throw him out of office. However, those people are just blinded by hatred  toward the Democratic Party. It doesn't matter how rational (while being elementary) you explain this to them...They lash out at you...Sure they "hate" what the Mayor has done, But they also hate who he is... They just want to blame his evil because he is a Democrat and JG (also a dem) want's to protect her politcal future... Jenny may have a brilliant career outside of State politics...

It's Republican Mike Cox (he plans on running for Govenor) who will have more problems "trying to expain why he "killed off" the investigation of the  infamous "Urban Legend" Monoogian Party.

Sent to members of council today

    Crabs in a basket?

Like any history making general the Mayor has strategically placed allies in key places in the city.  He has also successfully utilized the age old divide and conquer with precision.

He has isolated the citizens of Detroit by perpetuating this distorted sense of Detroit pride that is separate from the suburbs and Michigan as a whole, therefore successfully making himself lord and master of this island called Detroit.

Contrary to Monica's comment regarding taking care of things in house, Detroit is no ones HOUSE, we are not a separate country or entity.  We are part of the great state of Michigan and if we are to succeed we are to work together as one body.  This false pride of the hand stating it can work without the eyes, feet or the brain has gone on long enough.
IF AT THE CITY LEVEL ALL COST EFFECTIVE AVENUES HAVE BEEN EXHAUSTED THEN IT IS TIME TO PASS THE BATON.

No where else do you here the executive authorities separate themselves or attack other members of the body like here in Michigan.  When something happens in New York no matter what the city, they call it a New York problem or a Texas problem or a California problem.

Get the Governor involved, for the judicial system has played out and the Mayor has had his day in court.  We paid for his defense and he had a jury of his peers, that jury found that he and his cronies unlawfully fired police officers, and he forfeited his right to an appeal.

HOW MANY JURY TRIALS DOES THE MAYOR GET BEFORE THE POWERS THAT BE SAY HE HAS HAD HIS DAY IN COURT???

THIS ALONE SCREAMS ABUSE OF POWER AND WE WANT HIM OUT!

Well said, Magenta. I have also written to all of the Council members and the Governor that enough is enough. This is a nightmare and so very sad. I'm tired of the "separatist" mentality.

Re: Council Moves to Oust Mayor

Magenta, you bring up excellent points!

Yes, he HAS already had his day in court.  We keep forgetting that, because he's now entangled in another (but related) mess.  Yes, he was already found at fault, at the city was left to pay for his errors.

And as far as his "Detroit vs. the suburbs/state" mentality.  Let's cut off all funding to Detroit and see how well it fares on its own.  That should be interesting.

Laura, are you now "OK" with what the council did yesterday?

In light of what Judge Giles did, I think it is a godsend that they took action.

I'm more than OK!!! I was so frustrated with the lack of action. It seemed they were just moving in circles for weeks.

I was surprised that they took all three avenues. Even though it will take up to 18 months to play out one of the options, they have thrown some of the responsibility onto the Governor. We'll have to see what she does.

The Governor is in a very bad position. Removing an elected official, even though there is no doubt he should go, is contrary to our democracy. I don't envy her at all.

Months ago I was about the only one that didn't want Kwame to resign or be removed. I would really like him to be in office when convicted. Then he can be removed. But if convicted while in office he will be banned from becoming Mayor again.

Kwame's supports are zelots. I'm afraid that if he is removed or resigns they will martyr him and the divide between the City and the rest of the State will only deepen.

We're in a very fragile period. One incorrect move and we'll destroy more than we gain.
