    Indicted mayor wins re-election

ECORSE, Mich. (AP) — The mayor of a Detroit suburb has been re-elected, despite being under indictment on corruption charges.

Herbert Worthy defeated a former mayor, Larry Salisbury, by 15 votes Tuesday in Ecorse.

Worthy was charged in September with taking bribes and turning the city’s public works department over to contractors who were his largest campaign donors in 2007. He has pleaded not guilty.

One of the contractors, Stacey Tarockoff, cooperated with the FBI and secretly recorded conversations with Worthy. Tarockoff recently pleaded guilty to a banking crime.

Kilpatrick lawyer claims prosecutor wrong about cash flow

Doug Guthrie / The Detroit News

Detroit -- The amount of money that allegedly flowed through bank accounts belonging to former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his wife has been exaggerated by Wayne County's prosecutor, according to Kilpatrick's lawyer.

Michael Alan Schwartz will argue when Kilpatrick's probation hearing continues on Nov. 17 that the prosecution last week erroneously claimed more than $1 million moved through five accounts controlled by Kilpatrick's wife, Carlita, in the past year.

"That figure is off by at least $400,000," Schwartz said.

The document inaccurately reports accumulated multiple entries for the same sums that moved from one account to another, Schwartz said.

The hearings before Wayne Circuit Judge David Groner were called to determine if Kilpatrick has hidden wealth after he claimed having only $6 per month left after expenses for $1 million in restitution he agreed to pay the city. He has been ordered to make $6,000 monthly payments.

Schwartz also said Kilpatrick's testimony last week wasn't deliberately vague when he denied knowledge of family finances he says are now handled by his wife.

"The guy is in the doghouse," Schwartz said. "He did something that was very bad. He had an affair. Most wives would be upset by this, but his affair also became public when he lied about it and pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. That makes matters worse."

Schwartz said Kilpatrick is in a delicate position with his wife. Kilpatrick testified he signed over at least $150,000 in checks from a $240,000 loan given to him by four of Detroit's most influential businessmen after exiting jail in February.

Kilpatrick said he assumed she cashed them, but he couldn't say what happened to the money.

"He's trying to make up with her, and he's not in a position to demand what happened to this money," Schwartz said.

It's also unlikely that the prosecutor will be able to call Carlita Kilpatrick as a witness in the hearings, Schwartz said.

"She's not the one convicted of anything," Schwartz said. "She might say they can fly a kite."

Prosecutor Kym Worthy's spokeswoman, Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller, said Tuesday, "If any issues are raised, we will address them in court."

it seems that Kim Worthy can't do anything right ,according to Swartz Kwame"S attorney

You have to direct that article to the folks at some of the cable tv programs.  Innocent until proven guilty, but really, this is ridiculous.

    You will be shocked.

    Will check this out, interesting.

Tushana how do you know who's who posting under diff. names?

happens all over.  not worth the energy to get into anymore as long as everyone is being "nice."  :0)  Many people here provide interesting information and that is all I am interested in.

Your logic is right on Tushana. Message boards are a field day for posers. On the regular comments sections there are all the babyhueys and unionsucks posers. I actually find the comments entertaining. This is a very diverse country. I have only used one name on here besides one I forgot, I could not log in one day and used another name for like 2 posts over a year ago.

I could never handle more than one user name.  Too confusing and it takes time and concentration.

Is Monica's sentencing Dec. 1st?  What about Riddle?  Anyone know.  On the XYZ site it was mentioned that Dec. 1st was her "date." :0)

If the system wanted to they could put Kilpatrick in jail.  I don't see them as having the balls to do it.  It would create havoc.

Okay...no problem...let's pretend for a minute that Kwame's lawyer is not lying (this time) and let's pretend that the prosecutor was incorrect by $400,000. THAT STILL LEAVES $600,000 THAT THE LIL CHARLIE BROWN BLOCKHEADED SOCIOPATHIC MOMMAS BOY HAD WHEN HE WAS CLAIMING THAT HE ONLY HAD $6 AND SOME POCKET LINT LEFT IN HIS POCKET AT THE END OF THE MONTH.

    Dimwitted media

I find this curious. The media is all over the story about how Charles Pugh lost his condo to foreclosure and how is he going to be able to handle city finances if he can't handle his own etc. I'm kind of non-committal on this issue because I am still basking in the glow of knowing that Kwame is out of power along with Monica, Barbara Rose and Martha Reeves. However, what I want to point out is this. The media do not seem to devote equal time to the fact that Joanne Watson is a friggin property tax cheat so how do you not say anything about that larda$$ criminal. Also, they say little about Kwame Kenyattas forclosure yet they are all over Charles Pugh like a dang hobo on a ham sammich! I'm just saying they should have devoted equal time to all three.

    Re: MC

I agree with the fact that there were still unusually LARGE amounts of money going around.  $1,000,000 or only $600,000.  Not much of a difference when they say they can only pay $6.00 a month.  Love it that the attorney thinks he will blow smoke on this point.

Conyers sentencing rescheduled for Jan. 15 in bribery case

Paul Egan / The Detroit News

Detroit -- The sentencing date for former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers has been pushed back to Jan. 15, according to documents filed today in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

Conyers pleaded guilty to a bribery charge in June, admitting to taking cash in exchange for what proved to be the deciding vote in the Detroit City Council's approval of a $1.2 billion sewage sludge contract in 2007.

On Oct. 27, U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn set a Dec. 1 sentencing date for Conyers. But he issued a new order today pushing the sentencing back to early next year.

No reason was given for the delay, except that it best served the interests of justice.

The charge against Conyers is part of a long-running and wide-ranging federal corruption investigation that has resulted in charges against city officials, businessmen and political consultant Sam Riddle, a former aide to Conyers.

Detroit businessman Rayford Jackson, a co-defendant in the case of the sludge contract awarded to Synagro Technologies Inc. of Texas, is to be sentenced Nov. 13.

Another defendant, former Synagro official James R. Rosendall Jr., is to be sentenced Nov. 30.

Riddle plans to go to trial, which is scheduled for January.

Prosecutors sometimes will delay a defendant's sentencing until related trials in the case have been completed.

Tushana, Monica's sentencing has been moved to Jan 15th.  Love that this will better serve the interest of justice, probably only to get past the holidays, perhaps a little favor given to someone ?

That's exactly what I was thinking as well. It has become a standard Kilpatrick response to try and blow smoke around an issue in a lame attempt to confuse folks and sidetrack the main conversation. I am totally shocked that Kwame hasn't reached for his deck of race cards and accused the four WHITE businessmen of forcing him take the money.

TAX you are so entertaining...I bet your wife just laughs all the time.  I'm telling you, stand up comedy, we'll be the first in line to buy tickets.

Did you notice that everytime there's a KK story that the citizens just swarm and it always ends up to be like 300 comments.  HAHA  And they are funny today.  KK, MC, and Granmole don't stand a chance when it's time to comment on a story about them.

Good point, tax.  Maybe it's because those other two deadbeats are already part of Detroit politics.  But Pugh is a new entry, PLUS he's at the head of the ship (he seems to have always been in the lead for council President), so maybe they are being more circumspect regarding him.  Plus, he is one of their peers in the media, and maybe they expect more of him.

In any case, it's too bad ANY of these deadbeats were elected at all.  But it's good that Gary Brown got elected!  And I'm glad Ken Cockrel is back (but not at #4; he should have been #1)!

And it's too bad Mr Bennett (Detroit Uncovered owner) didn't make it.  He seemed like a straight shooter.

after reading different post and listening to him being interviewed I couldn't agree with you more.  He appears to have a sincere interest in doing the right thing.  I had a stronger reaction initially about him leaving a job when he had a responsiblity of paying off a mortgage.  I still feel strongly about him or anyone walking away because of lack of financial responsibility when they have a job that could have supported them and their mortgage if they lived within their means.  Bottom line:  Media coverage is not balanced in their reporting on this.  I don'tthink watson and kenyatta have much to offer the council either.  I see him as keeping the council from moving forward and watson well what more can be said about that lunatic  kenaytta took a strong stance with kk but beyond that?? Needless to say I hope Pugh does well in his endeavor.

    Re: MC

What did Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?
Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around.
I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me..

Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the
deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American
                                                      citizens that desperately needed work.

Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create jobs
                                                         for returning veterans.

And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million
Mexican Nationals! The program was called 'Operation Wetback'. It was
done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs.
It took 2 Years, but they deported them!

Now...if they could deport the illegal's back then - they could sure do it today?
lf you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter 'Operation
Wetback', into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.

Reminder: Don't forget to pay your taxes...
12 million Illegal Aliens are depending on you!
