Tushana:Saturday FP " Kilpatrick Hosts Event to Raise Legal funds." I don't know how to get the article over to this forum. He met "with a diverse gathering of supporters from corporate and civic backgrounds who are committed to the mayor's defense." Reported by Chris Garrett, kk's Washington based PR consultant. "Garrett declined to identify anyone who attended the fundraiser" nor give the amount of what the guests were charged. Held at Seldom Blues Restuarant, owned by WXYX anchor Carolyn Clifford's husband. Message from kk: "Great city. Keep moving forward."

Kilpatrick hosts event to raise legal funds
It's not first, but details are private
Kilpatrick met with "a diverse gathering of supporters from corporate and civic backgrounds who are committed to the mayor's vigorous defense," said Chris Garrett, one of the mayor's Washington-based public relations consultants.
Garrett declined to identify anyone who attended the fund-raiser. He also would not say how much Kilpatrick's guests were charged or how much was raised. He said it was not the first event Kilpatrick has hosted to collect money for the defense fund. He established the fund after being charged with eight felonies in the wake of a text message scandal the Free Press exposed in January.
Louis James, president of JASCO International, attended the hour-long event at Seldom Blues restaurant in the Renaissance Center. He said the mayor's message was simple: "He said, 'Great city. Keep moving forward.' "
The meeting was neither publicized nor open to the public. Renaissance Center security workers ordered a Free Press photographer to leave the building before the mayor arrived with his police bodyguards.
Renaissance Center security later told a producer for WDIV-TV Local 4 to leave before the mayor departed.

Unfortunately, this "diverse gathering of supporters" possibly has so much to hide that they can't show their faces publicly. OR, there were so few "supporters" in attendance that the KK team doesn't want anyone to know.
In my experience, supporters are up front. They stand up to be counted as supporters and speak out about what they believe. They don't slink around and skulk in and out of back doors to avoid being seen. Oh.. that's right. That's what KK does. They must be emulating him.....

I'm only going to say you're half right on this one. These are the times of "Politcal Correctness". Politricksters must have an alliance, for this very reason. Many times than not though, a lot of the "Shady Deals" go through un-noticed. And when the jig is up, those supporters scatter like roaches when you supply light to a darkened room.

Re: Karmanos Finally Speaks....
duchess: RayStar: lc345:
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick wants his office to take over the city’s distribution of federal grants, a practice that has been a function of the Detroit City Council for decades.
Thanks for this post. I agree it is time to write the Governor.
Maybe this is a ploy. How could he possibly be issuing all of these "new proclamations, by order of the King" and yet be in his right mind? A normal person, having been charged with felonies and having his corrupt form of government exposed more and more on a daily basis, would be at least contrite, right? So, I think this bravado is a ploy. Maybe they think (know) that this will go to trial, and their best bet is to have Kwame declared insane! Then they will send him to a mental instituion, where he will come back cured!
Duchess, good point. His latest edict is so obvious, as if to tell the world "wow, my earlier "no privacy" rule on electronic communications really got me into trouble, so now I'll just do a 180 to make sure THAT doesn't happen again".
We all know why he's doing it, but unfortunately for him, he cannot turn back in time. So the "insanity" line of defense may be in play here! Who knows with this guy.

I just now learned about the inboxes. Check the right upper hand corner. If you have a message(s) the number will show up. If you haven't done so you may want to check this out.
Everyone have a great day and enjoy the sun.
In boxes? Oh No. I went to the very top of the page and didn’t see what you were talking about. I just sent you a PVT e mail about Cut and Past but it was e-mail, Is this different? So much to learn and so little time

One day I will figure this out. Love the color purple. If I knew how to do it all my posting would be purple. Purple is suppose to be calming isn't it?

Found this comment on the freep forum which answered my question about GM's involvement:
"I wanted to let you know, GM Personnel did not know the Mayor was conducting a fund riser. The reservation was describe as a lunch meeting, no other details was provided. I work for GM, and I will find out who attended this meeting and post it. In addition, I will make sure such events happening under GM's building are open to the media. They have the rights to privacy in the room, but not the hallways and the rest of the building."
**********
Now the comes the question; How much city time was spent on KK's fundraiser? I'm sure this little lunch was longer than the standard lunch hour. Isn't there a prohibition on fundraising on work time? Or is KK exempt? And who paid the tab at the end of lunch? Just wondering................

This is nothing but a ploy, because as cocky as he and his attorney's are, there is no way he would not stand before the media in total arrogance and proclaim the support of ALL his supporters. The boy is lying again. The thing about a sociopath is this: whatever they are trying to get you to believe is not the truth. It's the nature of all sociopaths, because we know for a fact that kwame only hides the truth -- because it incriminates him. Therefore, implicit in that statement is that, whatever he is working hard at to get people to believe is in essence the lie.

Fron the Freep:
Karmanos: Kilpatrick should not resign
By KATHERINE YUNG • FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER • May 16, 2008
Detroit business leader Peter Karmanos Jr. said today that he does not think Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should resign.
“He certainly should not resign because he’s the best we have,” the chairman and chief executive of Compuware Corp. told the Free Press during a company celebration this morning in downtown Detroit’s Campus Martius.
Karmanos declined to comment further. Karmanos agreed to move his company headquarters downtown in 1999, before Kilpatrick took office, and the new building is a hub of activity adjacent to Campus Martius Park.
Karmanos’ comments came just days after the Detroit City Council voted to launch two separate initiatives to try to oust the mayor, who is facing perjury and other charges related to the text message scandal.
Since the mayoral scandal broke, few of the city’s business leaders have been willing to publicly say anything about what the mayor should do. The board of Detroit Renaissance, a group of about 50 corporate chief executives in the region, is divided over whether it should take a stand on the controversy or continue to keep a low profile.
Karmanos has played a key role in efforts to revitalize Detroit, but he said that his work in this area has not been impeded by the mayoral text message scandal.
*******************************
And a great comment from the freep forum:
MotownJohnnie wrote:
I wonder if the author of this article had the gumption to ask Karmanos how long he'd keep an employee who's done HALF the things Fat Boy has. Probably not. And one also has to wonder if the citizens of our fair town have figured out that Peter Karmanos has just insulted every last one of them by saying of Kwame Kilpatrick, "he's the best we have." 5/16/2008 1:29:35 PM
Looks like MotownJohnnie said it all. Pox on Karmanos.
Willing to bet, the Karmanos name will surface in the text messages. Interesting coincidence after yesterday's electronic information "policy change", which is legally null and void. These people are complete idiots, and now they’re complete and desperate idiots.
Definitely in panic mode. Their mouths are moving much faster than their brains, without thinking about long term consequences of them. But then, when did any of them worry about consequences?
Makes me wonder though, what's going on in the background that is setting this off? Something, something big. Unless it's starting to become real - the shock has worn off.
Obviously, whatever is going on in the background it is so devastating that no one can keep a level head--they have ALL imploded. Have you noticed that kwame's attorneys cannot hold their heads up, or maintain eye contact these days?
The Legal team has received the Prosecution's discovery CD's. They are all panicking! Probably something really obvious like "Now that we've KILLED TAMARA GREENN......." I'm sure there is enough to bring the Feds in. KYM did say she passed a few things up to the FEDS. Contract fixing.... murder... the usual thug activities. That's why everyone is acting desperate! NO DEALS FOR CB or KK! Why should stepping down be punishment enough? When will we pass a law that says innocent till proven guilty but during our wonderful legal systems 27 year process KK could retire in office after completing his 12 full terms if left up to the voters of Detroit. Where is the RECALL? Oh Yeah its one of the Team Kilpatrick members that got their recall through. Expect nothing to become of that!!!!
The only ones who should be spared are Watson, Kenyatta, Jones both Cockeril's and Dave Bing. Eliminate the entire regime starting with MAMA Kilpatrick. Prosecute everyone involved to the fullest extent.
PS Why is anyone concerned with KK changing policy? The policy in effect at the time of infraction should apply correct? Laura? Please advise.
WeCanHelp - The defense received, and are continuing to receive, the Prosecutors evidence and I doubt that they have gotten through all 200,000+ pages yet to discover the magnitude of the evidence for the charges, or possible future charges, against Kwame.
Ms. Worthy indicated that she spoke to the U.S. Attorney. What they spoke about is pure speculation. If you are referring a possible murder charge due to the rumor - pure hearsay - of Tamara Greene as a federal charge, it would NOT be. Murder, under the Greene circumstance, is a State charge. There are very few Federal murder statutes.
I believe that the Fed's are looking into many things, least of all the "contract fixing" as you said. They will file charges, if any, when they feel it's appropriate. It will be done before the statue of limitations expire. That is the only timetable that must be followed.
You suggested that if Kwame stepped down that would be agreeable in a "deal." I can say, with some confidence, that would NEVER occur. One does not tie into another. There are guidelines for sentencing, along with "deal" making. For a Judge to approve a "deal" certain requirements must be met. A plea (deal) is not just an agreement between the prosecutor and defendant. It must come under judicial review and approval. The Judge can throw any plea agreement out.
Also when a plea agreement is finalized the defendant must proclaim his/her guilt in open court and explain in detail what and how was done. At that point the defendant is found guilty. If Kwame took a plea he would admit to his guilt and therefore loose his position as Mayor anyway.
The law that you referred to "innocent until proven guilty" is the Constitution and the entire basis of our Justice System. To refer to it in such a flippant manner is quite disrespectful. The process of "bringing justice" in regard to Kwame and Beatty will probably take a total of 10 months, without appeals. This is a large case, in respect to the evidence and witness list. Hardly 27 years, with 12 full terms (which would equal 48 years) a gross exaggeration.
As for the electronic communication policy I believe I answered that earlier. Indtytf also answered your question.
Laura,
Thanks for taking the time to provide a fairly decent response to each of my issues/questions. I realize I had exaggerated with the 27 year comment but I did that to be very obvious in my exaggeration. I am a little suprised that you are a so niave to believe that the defense knows of nothing prior to formal release of the CD's. It is not uncommon for an attorney to interview their client (KK) to get some understanding as to the magnitude of the circumstances. (What did you do?) (When did you do it ?) (How did you do it ) (With whom did you do it?)

I am also surprised that you don't think that there is a large team of attorneys dividing and conquering sections of what has been submitted to date. You know.... highlight the very important areas / blatant items then go back and collectively review those sections in detail.
I have no doubt that this will take time but you mentioned 10 months w/o appeals. It’s usually weeks in between each appeal which some could go all the way to the state supreme court. So KK will survive this term and a re-election period which appears to be a slam dunk based on the fact that there is no significant recall effort going to date. I live downtown and have yet to see (1) petition drive anywhere. (I would have already signed) It may take 10 months just for establishing whether the texts are admissible. Sept 21st?.... Then an appeal... Nov 15 ....then an appeal...Xmas break....Feb 05 then to the State Supreme court..... Then Federal appeal since it deals with Federal Communication laws. Then once they would be ruled admissible the defense could say we never read anything because we thought this would be a moot point we thought these wouldn't be admissible. A judge would then have to give them 120 more days with the overwhelming amount of discovery involved. The cycle starts all over again.
After all it took 45 days just to file a motion over the cost of releasing the discovery!!!

To meemeemy:
A sentence is a significant portion of speech. Some parts of which have an independant meaning. That is to say, as an utterance. Though not as the expression of any positive judgement. Every sentence has meaning. Not as being the natural, means by which a physical faculty is realized. But, as we have said, by convention.
Yet every sentence is not a proposition; only such are propositions as have in them either truth, or falsity. Thus a prayer is a sentence, but is neither true, nor false. Let us therefore dismiss all other types of sentence but the proposition. For this last concerns our present inquiry. Whereas the investigation of others belongs rather to the study of rhetoric, or of poetry. (Aristotle 350 B.C.)
Sociopath n. A psycopath exhitbiting aggressive antisocial behavior.
That is just one definition in the dictionary. And I don't feel like attempting to research the clinical definitions. Name calling doesn't make anything go away. For whatever your reasons are to justify that you don't like Kilpatrick, and what he did we get it. And crucifiction from the Poll Of Public Opinion rarely solves a circumstance. All it is, is a different way to vent frustration over the issue. And the quote by Aristotle was just to show that problems of today have been here long before we had to deal with them. A problem is a problem no matter when the time is. Kilpatrick isn't the first elected offical in power over the City of Detroit who has made transgressions. So stop acting like it.

We Can Help,
Do you really know that the KK legal team is panicking, or are you just taking a guess?
Pure speculation I would think
I guess Tushana (who doesn't know me or who I know) has already declared it speculation?
Tushana, What are the winning mega million #'s for next Tuesday?
I thought this forum would be mature enough to give some ..the benefit of the doubt. I attended college with a relative of a very famous attorney on Kilpatrick's team. Let's leave it at that. You can disregard my comments as being a "guess/speculation".
Sorry I tried to share what I deemed reliable info.
