This is the letter I sent council today regarding the story in today's Free Press.

    Council Members,

I am referencing the article from Sundays Free Press.
Bobby Ferguson, with the help of Kwame and Carlita Kilpatrick stole $250,000 in grant money from the state of Michigan. This grant money was supposed to help house and feed elderly Detroit residents. Ferguson bought a house with the money and proceeded to rent it out to young renters.
How does this mayor and his friends and family sleep at night knowing they have stolen money from elderly residents to line their own pockets? More to the point, HOW DO YOU COUNCIL MEMBERS THAT VOTED TO KEEP THIS LYIN, CHEATIN, STEALIN MAYOR IN OFFICE SLEEP AT NIGHT? I will work as hard as I can to ensure that Monica Conyers, Barbara Rose Collins and Martha Reeves are NOT re-elected to council. If you are supporting Kwame after all this then you must be hiding your own dirty deeds. Maybe Kwame stole some senior citizen money for you as well.
Kwame and his rotten group of friends and family have to go!

    ____________________________________________________________________
I would suggest that if anyone wishes to get some changes done you need to keep riding this council. It's all well and good to gripe and maon in this forum but you need to get the message to the proper folks. Council doesn't have time to read every blog and forum out there. Their email addresses are as follows.....
"Ken Cockrel" <cockrelk.cncl.council@kcockrel.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Shiela Cockrel" <s-cockrel_mb@ckrl.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Barbara Rose Collins" <collins_mb@cncl.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Monica Conyers" <riddles@cncl.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Brenda Jones" <bjones_mb@cncl.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Kwame Kenyatta" <k-kenyatta_mb@cncl.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Martha Reeves" <m-reeves_mb@cncl.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Alberta Tinsley-Talabi" <a_talabi_mb@atwpo.ci.detroit.mi.us>, "Joanne Watson" <watsonj_mb@cncl.ci.detroit.mi.us>
If I might suggest that the Michigan Attorney General, Mike Cox, should be written also. Get an investigation going.

    Tushana:
Saturday FP " Kilpatrick Hosts Event to Raise Legal funds."   I don't know how to get the article over to this forum.  He met "with a diverse gathering of supporters from corporate and civic backgrounds who are committed to the mayor's defense."  Reported by Chris Garrett, kk's Washington based PR consultant.  "Garrett declined to identify anyone who attended the fundraiser"  nor give the amount of what the guests were charged.  Held at Seldom Blues Restuarant, owned by WXYX anchor Carolyn Clifford's husband.  Message from kk:   "Great city.  Keep moving forward."

Hmmmm, Judy Smith was the DC PR person originally on this case.  Maybe Judy was too pretty and Carlita said she had to GO!

That's a good idea also Laura but I just can't bring myself to forgive Mike Cox for calling the Manoogian Mansion party an urban legend six years ago. The coward never questioned Carlita and all the rumors circulating at that time had Carlita sending someone to the hospital with baseball bat injuries. Mike Cox never has answered that question. WHy didn't he interview Carlita. I hate Mike Cox.

Nor can I Tax, but he is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the State, well his title is. But maybe if enough pressure is put on him, and Grandholm, they will finally do something.

Lawyer to bill Detroit $160K for mayor issue

The council's attorney says he cut $225 off his hourly rate because city's 'operating on fumes.'

Christine MacDonald / The Detroit News

DETROIT -- The City Council is quickly discovering that ousting Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick won't be cheap.

Its attorney, William Goodman, said Wednesday he's close to billing the city nearly $160,000 for 2 1/2 months' work through April.

Hired in mid-February shortly after the revelation that the mayor had cut a secret deal to reach an $8.4 million whistle-blower settlement, Goodman said he's discounted his rate to $300 an hour. He normally charges $525.

"It's the city of Detroit," Goodman said. "They are operating on fumes as it is."

The council may vote next week on a $100,000 contract increase for Goodman -- and his staff of two other lawyers and paralegal help -- to fund the initial forfeiture hearings planned for June, as well as its request to Gov. Jennifer Granholm to remove Kilpatrick. Both measures passed Tuesday by 5-4 votes.

Initial estimates pegged the cost of the forfeiture process at up to $500,000, but Council President Kenneth Cockrel Jr. said he now believes it would cost less. He couldn't provide an estimate.

"We don't want this thing to turn into a money pit," Cockrel said.

Marcus Reese, a spokesman for Kilpatrick's personal legal team, criticized the expense, saying council members are running a politically motivated "shadow investigation."

"We think that is an extraordinarily large amount of money for a group so concerned with ... protecting taxpayer dollars," Reese said.

In contrast, Kilpatrick spent at least $845,000 on outside attorneys defending the police whistle-blower suit.

Councilwoman Sheila Cockrel said the expense is "money well spent" if it helps "get to the truth."

Goodman held three days of hearings in April on the scandal and authored a report that concluded Kilpatrick violated the city charter with the settlement to three former police officers.

Council members say they were duped into signing off on the deal, which kept secret embarrassing text messages that were allegedly exchanged between Kilpatrick and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty.

Both face perjury, obstruction of justice and official misconduct charges.

You can reach Christine MacDonald at (313) 222-2396 or cmacdonald@detnews.com.

Tip of the Iceberg/ Crack in the Dam

Good morning! Is is just me or does it seem like there's more information hitting the media lately? Instead of once in awhile little tidbits, there's something new almost every day. There are some very talented researchers out there and are they ever digging!

I think KK's team has been using chewing gum instead of truth (if they know the meaning of the word) to patch things. The whole mess is about to fall apart. We're going to be inundated with tale after tale of KK's corrumption. KK's team is running out of spin.

Almost as if they're trying to keep an extremely high level of pressure, constantly throwing new allegations of misuse of office.

The spin ran out a couple weeks ago. Now we're not going to hear a lot from Kwame's mouthpieces, including Tolliver, because there is too much out there to deny.

It's too bad Kwame supporters, shoot the messenger (in this case the media) instead of the message!

Should he stay or should he go?

Excellent article from today’s Free Press:

Should he stay or should he go? Mayor has long list to ponder

BY RON DZWONKOWSKI • FREE PRESS COLUMNIST • May 18, 2008

    function NewWindow(height,width,url) {window.open(url,"ShowProdWindow","menubars=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,height="+height+",width="+width); }

I don't know if Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick makes those yes-and-no lists when faced with an important decision. It probably doesn't matter, since he's behaving, incredibly, like there's nothing for him to decide.

But suppose he is actually pondering whether to resign with those eight felony charges staring him in the face and the City Council moving on two fronts to get rid of him. How does that list look?

Yes, it really would be best for the city.

No, I really am best for the city. God told me.

Yes, I need to focus all my attention on the criminal case.

No, I don't even want to think about it; got to stay busy doing mayor stuff.

Yes, I am embarrassing my city, myself and my family.

No, if I go, my family's off the payroll, most of my friends, too.

Yes, I could save the legal system a lot of time and money by working out a plea deal that includes my resignation.

No, I'm entitled to my day in court, and this time I won't be testifying, so I've got a shot.

Yes, I need to cut a deal. I am never going to raise enough money to pay for all these high-priced lawyers.

No, these guys can get me off on those technical legal grounds, and I'll figure out a way to get the city to pay the bills.

Yes, I have lost the confidence of the City Council.

No, I never had it. Besides, the votes were just 5-4.

Yes, I'd hate to be hauled up in front of the governor and fired.

No, she may not like me much but she'd never do it.

Yes, the city is pretty much paralyzed. My latest big ideas are going nowhere.

No, I'm not paralyzed. I'm still getting a check. Still got the free house, cars, guards. Manoogian pool will be open pretty soon. A gig like this doesn't come along very often. Might as well hang onto it as long as I can.

Yes, I've done enough people favors, they'd all help me out when I leave office.

No, you know how friends get when all of a sudden you're the one asking.

Yes, the business community has stopped returning my calls; Dave Bing is fed up with me.

No, they'll be crawling back when I'm cleared; Bing's just a guy from another era.

Yes, if the Red Wings or Pistons win championships, I'll get booed if I show up for the parades. They might even throw stuff.

No, they're not going to win anything. Neither are the Tigers. And the

    Lions ...

Yes, I'm young enough to put this behind me after a while and still have a future.

No, I'm too old to start a new career. Besides, with a felony rap, I can't practice law or even go back to teaching.

Yes, nobody is more important than the city.

No, Monica Conyers would become council president.

Yes, I'd be out of the national news and late-night comedy routines.

No, I'd be out of the national news and late-night comedy routines.

Yes, Spitzer quit. Scooter Libby quit after he was charged. Even the prime minister of Israel says he'll quit if he gets charged.

    No. Marion Barry.

Yes, they have a mountain of evidence; Beatty may flip on me. I can't beat this thing. Imagine me in a prison suit. What a scene.

No, it may take a while but I am going to win, and when I get re-elected in 2009, it will be the political triumph of the ages. They'll play the "Rocky" theme at my party. What a scene!

Yes, I've been mayor long enough. Time to let somebody else worry about the city.

No, they will take away my text-messager.

Which brings me back to something I've mentioned before: At some point, KK will be gone and supporters and non-supporters will be left to rebuild the city.

Now, I feel pretty safe in saying that many of KK's supporters will be in jail or dismissed from their positions. Others, like the pr firms and lawyers, will disappear out of state when the money runs out.

But, the rest of us, whether we liked KK or not, will have to work together. I think that there are many people who are so focused on the daytime drama of KK and CB (many days I'm one of them), they can't focus on a future without him and his gang.

We all need to be thinking about our common goals and how we can work together to build a better Detroit. I don't have to like someone to work with them to achieve a flourishing Detroit. Bickering, like we sometimes see on our own forum, will just sink the city further. Just a thought.............

    **************************

Just a thought.............

once the thugs the moles and the cockroches are extinguished from the city, you will find that things will become  greener,  providing that the people do their homework on election day. Elect a leader who is honest and not one with empty promises.
