    Pistons Fire Flip Saunders

The Detroit Pistons have fired head coach Flip Saunders just days after the team lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

"Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular-seaons," Dumars said in a statement. "However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change. I thank Flip for his hard work and dedication, but it is time for a new voice to lead our team."

Saunders, who was named head coach in 2005, had a regular-season record of 176-70 in three seasons. In three trips to the NBA Playoffs under Saunders, the Pistons were 30-21 and reached the Eastern Conference Finals each year.

Saunders had one year left on a four-year contract. Dumars has scheduled a 2 p.m. media availability to discuss the move.

    WHAT DO YOU THINK?

This is a good decisions by dumars. The team did not have that fire in there eyes as did, When larry was coaching. Now lets see what decisions he makes with some players.

flip should have been gone last year.he is not a good coach.he doesnt make adjustments.if something isnt working he'll ride it out anyway and he did'nt use the bench, thats what got them 59 wins.

Flip is not the problem. Joe has paid these pampered idots to much money - the players are not worth the money,or they would have won the championship. The was no drive with these players, they were not hungry. They get paid whether they win or lose. All theses athletes are not what they are paid. They laugh at us. Look at the todays ecomony to do think they are worth the money they are paid. With the cost of gas and housing crisis. People are losing their jobs. Joe should understand this.

    Re: Pistons Fire Flip Saunders

Flip is a good coach with a lot of deep talent.  "Professional" ball players should be able to motivate themselves, but sometimes the need a bit more of a push.  Flip just wasn't able to provide that push to get over the hump and close out games and series that they should have.  The players often seemed to think there was no reason to play the game, that the other team should have just forfeited.  A "top" coach would not have let this happen.  At least not as often as it seemed to happen under Coach Saunders.  I wish Flip luck and I know he will be a good coach for a team with the right circumstances, but he's gone as far as he can here.

ALWAYS GET RID OF THE COACH NEVER GET RID OF OVERPAYED LAZY PLAYERS . IT COULD BE WORST THEY COULD BE OWNED BY WILLIAM CLAY FORD.

    Re: Pistons Fire Flip Saunders

Yes this was the right decision, Flip could not lead the team the NBA finals. Rasheed Wallace needs to go too; he is becoming a liability.

    Re: Pistons Fire Flip Saunders

It's typical that the coach of professional teams will be fired when the millionaire prima donnas can't or won't do their job to the best of their ability. I would think they would have given their best just for the sake of winning the game (not to mention the ridiculous salary some receive) but instead it's the coaches fault for not motivating them.

    Give me a break!!!

What is the difference?   Players Play and Coaches Coach,  Fire the Players, Not the Coach..

flip is a good coach. i do not agree with dumars. i am sure he will let some players go as well. pistons will be lucky to make the playoffs next year. do you really need to rebuild a team that makes it all the way to the eastern conf. finals year after year?

    Re: Pistons Fire Flip Saunders

Flip is a good coach with one of the best win/loss ratios in the league, however, the veteran players he's dealt with are no longer hungry enough to win the "big ones" any more. As they say, "We do what we do!" Well, that doesn't cut it any more -- Rasheed is a detriment to morale and he's too emotional to contribute consistently, he should be the FIRST to go! Rip and Tay would be the only veterans I'd keep -- there is a good group of young players on the bench that ARE hungry to learn, play and WIN! If Flip is truly gone, bring in Lambier or Avery as coach.
