City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

What do you think of the city council's decision?

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

Mayor Kilpatrick has caused enough embarassment to the residents, leaders, and industry of Detroit.  He needs to cut his losses, step down, and enable the city as a whole to successfully rebuild itself.  It is apparent that the economic growth and rebuilding of Detroit is not a priority of the Mayor, however having extramarital affairs and being dishonest to the city of Detroit is a high priority.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

I think the Mayor should step down because it is the right thing to do. I do not believe he apologized sincerly for his comments and his dishonesty to the people of Detroit. Mr. Mayor it is time to step down and let someone who is honest and reputable who will lead in making great things happen in Detroit and turn the city around. Please stop emabrrasing yourself, your family, and the people of the greater Detroit Metropolitan Area. We need a leader and you sir are not that man!

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

I applaud  the Council for doing the right thing.  I was and will always be a Detroitor by heart.  Mr. Kilpatrick may have done a lot of good for the City of Detroit, but he has now disgraced the already tainted name of the City. Get him out NOW.

He is no roll model for the children anywhere especially in Detroit.  He may have made a mistake but now he should be man enough to step down, instead of dragging this out and costing the tax payers of Detroit more money.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

Much like Congress, the City Council has a responsibility to provide oversight for the People. The failure of Congress to exercise its oversight authority has resulted in a culture of corruption and cronyism emanating throughout Washington. It is disingenuous to think that the outcome will be any different for the city of Detroit if members of the council ignore what’s best for the greater good.

This vote was right for Detroit and way overdue.

It is a shame the vote was not 9-0.  I am not buying into the flu excuse...she should have been there for this very important vote, and I think we all know now why Sam left the other idiot.  He couldn't take working with her and everyone can see why.  If it wasn't for who she married, she would be saying do you want fries with that or doing mud wrestling at night in a strip bar?  The vote was great...but the two very weak links in the council is just disgusting.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

I think their decision was the right decision...while so many people indicated what they felt the Mayor had done for the city...they need to look at other factors.

    1.   I do not live in Detroit but Detroit  is not an island...it is part of Michigan...what happens in Detroit affects our economy and our image...right now he is a liability to both.  People of power are distancing themselves from him because they too are concerned about his ethics, etc.so his effectiveness is not recoverable.

    2.  Many of the positive things done were started during the Archer administration for example the Super Bowl game here in Detroit.  Everything has NOT been done by this Mayor...there are others in the community CEOs, etc that have sponsored and pushed for change.  Everything isn't about the Mayor.

    3.  The question continues to be of "how" he has made these changes...were they done ethically and legally.  It is hard to get past a history of lying and abusing...even with some good results.

    4.  I believe that the council acted objectively...the people who supported keeping him on are those who have experienced something personally and are looking at it from a narrow perspective and not for the welfare of Detroit and the state...its people, businesses, and future.

The taxpayers of Detroit should peacefully stand outside the Manougian Mansion until this unworthy mayor resigns.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

If the City Council wants the Mayor to resign then we know what the people in Detroit think.  Nevermind the scandal.  He could have done wonders for Detroit but did not.  When I think of all the people who are homeless and sleeping at Hart Plaza and other places on the street it just makes me sick.  With all the millions that the Mayor has spent Detroit could have opened a shelter for the homeless.  Could have cleaned up the ghetto's throughout the city.  What about all the drugs running rampid in Detroit.  I have worked in Downtown Detroit since the 60's and Detroit will never be the same.  I am glad that I only have a few more years to work in Detroit.  Detroit is just a Skeleton of what it use to be.  And for him to bring racism into all of this is so cowardly.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

I watched the public hearings this morning when people went before the council and said what they thought for two minutes.  I don't know about you but the ones that were there talking in favor of KK made me want to just know if they were part of the friends and family plan.  You know, like his brother-in-law that got 45 million in city contracts, or his whore that was making 140,000 a year, or her mom that we don't know yet what she is making, or Matt Allen that was on the payroll for beating his wife, or his new chief-of-staff and his mom, or.....oh hell, the list is just too long!  Anyways, I think they probably got some kind of bonus if they or someone they knew went and said something nice about the scumbag.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

One can only hope this is true....wouldn't it be great if there were no more Kilpatricks in politics in Michigan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The scumbags can crawl back into whatever hole they came out of!

    Kilpatrick, "Beltway Arrogance"
The whole Kilpatrick text scandal and the fallout from it may not just be limited to Mayor Kilpatrick, his mom Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick could be damaged by this scandal. No one has forgotten that Congresswoman Kilpatrick stated after the whistleblower verdict that, " we will appeal no matter how much it cost". Many Detroiters are upset that the Congresswoman, who does not have any authority over city finances would make such a statement. Former Michigan House of Representatives Democratic floor leader Mary Waters has criticized the Congresswoman for being , "out of touch" with her constituents. She says the Congresswoman has a " beltway arrogance that does not serve the people of Detroit". Waters could be a challenger to Kilpatrick. Also in the conversation is former Deputy Chief Gary Brown.

What part of " Just Go" does he not understand. He is a total embarrassment to the whole Southeastern region of Michigan.

He sure does have his head in the sand.

Re: City Council Wants Mayor Kilpatrick to Resign

He is an  arrogant, pompass, manipulative ass.  His time serving as  Mayor of Detroit has been  nothing more than a joke.  The city of Detroit has been his own personal bank account, using City money for pleasure and for covering mistakes he has made.  Now he has the  audasity to portray himself as the victim ...the media attacking him and his family, threats being made towards him.  He created this mess for himself  AND his family.  He has made the city of Detroit a laughing stock and embaressed his  family. The people voted him in and  supported him...he let  every single person living in Detroit,  all businesses in Detroit, the State of Michigan, and his family down. He has put  The Motor  City  on the map in an  embaressing and  negitive way.  Yet he  has the  nerve to say he will not resign. He might as well  be spitting in  all of our faces.  What a power-hungry loser.
