   Out of all the responses for the life of me I can't see how this is such a simple thing to do. From the typical response, it is assumed that all that needs to be done is boot him out, and all the troubles will be over. If you are as intelligent as you portray, then you know that is not the case. It would be a lot cheaper, and easier to allow the Courts to do what they are doing and let time allow us to elect another Mayor. Because by the time all this is said and done in the Courts, it will be time to elect another Mayor, and City Council members.

Personally, I am against allowing the Mayor’s time to just run out for the same reason that I would be against allowing a criminal soldier to just finish his time and leave with an honorable discharge as opposed to a dishonorable one.  Committing oneself to ones chosen post in life with integrity and honor is not a very easy task in this day and age.  However those of us that do so, do not want to see the same honorable benefits, pensions, retirement  plans, reputations that we EARN by our walk on the straight and narrow thrown to those who do not give a @#$%. 

If this man leaves solely due to term limits then it is a slap in the face to all of those who strive in office to do the right thing.  This is about so much more than the man himself.

I wouldn't trust him with a key to a gym locker, let alone the key to the City. Nor his mother, Conyers, Watson, or Kenyatta. And I didn't trust Hendricks when he was the Deputy Mayor. Credibility is MY biggest issue. Who CAN we trust until we can elect someone new somebody please tell me.

   My biggest complaint is that everyone who wants Kilpatrick's head on a platter, (me included by the way) refuses to acknowledge that his replacement should be qualified and ready to take this position with the dignity, and credibility necessary to get the job done for it's RESIDENTS. The people who are LOYAL residents to this City, deserve nothing less.

   I stated in an earlier post on another thread that I will not, nor will I ever condone the type of behavior that has been exhibited by the Mayor. But, he and his former staff member must be allowed "Due Process". Their fates rest with the Courts now. And it's our job to begin to find a worthy replacement for their soon to be vacated positions. And I'm sure in the hearts of many there are about 5, or 6 Council seats that need replacement as well.

Well, somehow the Voters have to get beyond buying into the mind-numbing rhetoric used by Kwame and other Coleman imitators. The 2nd term granted to Kwame was incomprehensible. I supported Kwame, actively, the 1st time around but the sense of betrayal cut to the quick. Any large City has it's share of corruption and incompetence, but the depth of corruption in an ever shrinking city like Detroit is amazing. 

It would be great if we could broom out all of City Council, and Kwame and start fresh. I've watched this Council Side-show for almost 40 years. It's been a downward spiral. It's almost like a large portion of the voters take a perverse glee in perpetuating the madness.

Sadly, there is a hot-button that the crafty like Kwame and his ilk know how to push. And yes, you'll always find those lucky few on the friends and family plan that eat at the King's table and swear what a great despot they serve.  Only when the most stubborn and ill-informed voters of the City wake up and see the light will there be hope for the City, not just another round of "I got mine"...

I don't believe the corruption in Detroit stops at the voting booth.  Simple term limits on all offices and judgeships and appointees would alleviate many corruption issues, right now it seems you have to die out of office.

Spare us the mounting spectacle of City Council hearings to bounce you from office, coupled with a governor's investigation into whether she ought to put you out.

Spare us umpteen embarrassing images of you sitting at the defense table in a courtroom, fighting for your liberty while the whole city fights for its dignity.

And spare us the prospect of more humiliating revelations, of more uncovered misconduct or ham-handed nepotism, of more fodder for the jokes of the late-night national TV talkers.

When will it all be enough? If you have any respect for Detroit and its people, any respect for your family, or even for yourself, resign now so the city you say you love so much can move on. Resign, so Detroit can thrive. Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's troubles, which have been surreal since the first stories about the text messages, have now spawned a circus atmosphere that permeates all things Detroit.

Nothing resembling "business as usual" is getting done. A deal to sell the city's share in the Windsor tunnel? Dream on. The city budget? Could be another tissue of lies. A replacement for outgoing Water Department Director Victor Mercado? Why on earth would council allow this mayor to choose a successor?

The official relationship between the council and the mayor effectively ended Tuesday, when a majority voted to go forward with hearings to decide whether he has forfeited his office through his actions. It's like a de-recognition of him as mayor by the city's legislative branch.

Working with Kilpatrick now would seem an admission of the council's unimportance in city governance, a thumb of the nose at the idea that they have the power to get rid of him. The grinding halt of city business has just started, as even some members of the mayor's administration will admit privately.

And this won't be solved anytime soon. Removal hearings will take at least two months, while the mayor's appeals -- guaranteed by the city charter -- will drag out even longer. The governor's proceedings will take at least as long and the mayor's criminal trial seems eons from today, with endless motions and legal challenges delaying any actual decisions.

We're looking at as much as a year of this nonsense hanging over everyone's head.

The only one who can stop all of this now is the mayor himself. Only the tragedy of unparalleled self-importance could convince him that he should stay past this point. Only the smallest man could think himself big enough to put everyone through all the wrangling, the cost and the sheer discomfort of all this.

The most disappointing part of this whole scandal has been Kilpatrick's arrogance, his insistence that his relentless efforts to stay in the Manoogian are about God, or the people, or the city. They're about him, his self-indulgence, self-appointment, and ultimately, self-destruction. Spare us.

No question a product of the fine Detroit Public Schools, and either a member of the friends and family plan, or just one of the idiots (As Kwame and family refer to them) that voted for him.
