Detroit City Councilwoman Martha Reeves didn’t go to Los Angeles for Michael Jackson’s funeral, but she displayed her voice and her encyclopedic knowledge of all things Motown Records when she talked about Jackson today.

First, humming a few bars of “I Want You Back,” Reeves said she first met Jackson when he was 5 years old in the group with his brothers then called “The Jacksons.” Then, singing the first few bars of “Who’s Loving You,” she said the younger Jackson “sang like an adult.”

“We’ve lost an icon . . . one of the greatest entertainers,” Reeves said.

The council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a resolution “In Loving Tribute to The Late Michael Jackson, 'King of Pop,' ” proposed by Council President Pro Tem JoAnn Watson.

The nearly two-page resolution details the highlights of Jackson’s career and life, expressing the council’s “heartfelt sympathy to the family of the late Michael Jackson in tribute to the extraordinary genius and artistry which blessed Detroit – Motown – and the World.”

It's so wonderful that in a city facing a $300 million dollar deficit, where the school system is crumbling before our eyes and 7 teenagers get shot and people hardly blink....it's just so friggin nice to know that the TAX CHEAT JoA$$ Twatson has the time to draft a TWO page document in honor of a pedophile. I'm not only in the rabbit hole, I think I have wandered into the rabbits' anus.

    Re: MJ Funeral

Exactly, tax.  Martha was likely not invited.  Since when would she put her council job ahead of her "primary job"?

As I confessed here earlier, I am hooked on a lot of this coverage (against my better judgment).  Anyway, I find it fascinating that all of these news accounts of MJ's life speak of him being a lonely, private person.  Yet all of these hanger-onners are flocking out to Los Angeles to pay tribute, like they're his BFFs.

And the one person we KNOW he was truly friends with, Elizabeth Taylor, is purposely staying away from all of this hype.  I'm not really a fan of hers (nor of Jackson's), but good for her!

They would not pay her plane fare is my guess. She has to travel in the maaner she is accustomed to from our tax dollars. She is a Motown and legend and star don'tcha know.

Amen Tax........you would think a President died, not a pedophile. He went from a sweet, adorable, beautiful little black child to a sick, disturbed and white adult. So Sad. Seems like someone around him could have seen the writing on the wall when he freaked out his face and got him help. When he made Thriller, he was very handsome......then he turned his self into a corpse face. He was scarey to look at and I have never believed he had that disease.......IMO...he bleached his self. Someone said Barry Gordy even said M.J. wanted to be white. Seems like that is not breaking the racial barriers, but denying his race. ??? Would he have paid millions to the boys if he had been innocent?  I hope and pray that CPS checks those children and see if they need help for any reason.

Now really, we all know she is "silently" protesting that they are not holding the memorial event in the "D" where he and family got their start, that they are doing this outside the borders of "D".  Glad it is in L.A.  Anyone know where that city is coming up the $4million it is taking to host the event?  They have a population of approx. 3.8 million, so they could send the welfare recipients from door to door to collect a $1 per household member "tax" this summer.

Conyers on her TV show: 'I'm still the councilwoman'

Monica Conyers may no longer be a Detroit City Council member, but she is continuing her call-in television program.

And the show’s name will still be “Ask the Councilwoman with Monica Conyers.”

“I’m still the councilwoman,” she said today during the program on WHPR-TV, Channel 33. “I’m not going to not do my show.”

Conyers submitted her resignation last week, effective Monday. She pleaded guilty to a felony charge of bribery conspiracy for agreeing to vote yes on the $1.2 billion Synagro Technologies sludge-recycling contract.

Conyers continued today to pillory the news media for what she called unflattering, biased coverage of her.

“I’ve not heard them say one good thing about me,” she said. “Not one good thing for all the good that I’ve done -- giving away the turkeys, the Easter baskets, the computers. I’ve not heard them say one good thing about Monica Conyers. And I’ll tell you, God doesn’t make junk.”

Conyers also denounced lawsuits filed by former employees of hers as people lying to make “a quick penny.” She denied ever ordering her staff to run personal errands. That allegation was made by Yakima Washington, a former Conyers aide. Washington received $90,000 in a settlement with the city.

Conyers said she thought new Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans would do a great job, but also praised former chief James Barren’s performance.

She spent much of the show reminiscing about Michael Jackson. She confided to a childhood crush on Jackson’s brother, Randy Jackson.

Everyone, make sure you go to the Free Press and Detroit News sites, and read this story AND the comments.  Out of several hundred, NO ONE is supporting Monica.  She is about as popular as Osama bin Laden.

Keo, I was able to watch the first 25 minutes in the replay tonight.  You are right. Around the 20 min. mark it got hot.  Their new video provider allows fast forward and rewind, much better for watching the replay.  Prior to that point in the meeting, here they are almost half way through July and they are talking about grass cutting and asking for reports from the different city depts.  What a messed up city.  Apparently on vacant lots they can only cut the grass in the front but not the back according to the law.  It really is eye opening and sometimes bizarre to watch these meetings.  Kenny C's neighborhood has a lot of vacant lots, with high grass and the rats population has exploded!

I caught that on tv the other night. Monica is just like Kwame. When you have no defense for your stupid actions then go on the attack no matter how ridiculous the accusation. Recall when Kwame was yelling at Steve Wilson to stop hiring hookers in the caribean. This was before Kwame was caught red texted with Chrissy Da HO Beatty and while Kwame was still denying the party at DaBoogeydown Mansion.
