It sounded to me like he apologized to the city for the embarrassment that he caused or for the fact that the local constituents are now having their regularly scheduled television programming interrupted so he can deal with this on TV. He also clearly apologized to his wife - I guess he thought it was imperative for the world to see that (I'm sure it was delivered with the appropriate tears in private). But honestly I don't care about his idle apologies and the pain that he and his family are going through. I'm completely convinced that he is not sorry for lying while under oath. That's what I care about. He and his PR team, and the lawyer he sent down south, and Sharon McPhail, will all try to make this go away by trying to focus the problem on his affair(s), and how much development has happened in Detroit during his tenure as Mayor. Oh - and the "pain" his family now endures from having to deal with these issues in public. All to get us off the track of the one clear legal issue - and only moral issue that I care about - He lied while under oath. If you can't tell the truth as you said you would "so help me God", then you can't come out on TV and tell me how important it is for you to iron out your problems with your family and with God's help - because you've already shown me that you don't have any respect for the judicial system or God. He doesn't need to say that he can't say anything now because there are some legal issues outstanding - he needs to tell me now that he understands that he has been caught redhanded in a lie, and a lie while under oath, and for that he is truly sorry and he plans to admit to the judge that he lied and apologize to the judge. And then use all that other stuff about what he's done for the city and the pain he endures with his family to try and secure a lenient penalty. Until he can do not only will I not trust him, but he'll never even hear me address him as Mayor. It's time to disband the team that will try and help him wriggle his way out of this and walk on his own two feet and take his punishment like a man.
