Several days ago a very high-spirited, well-spoken young woman spoke during the public forum at the city council meeting. I am paraphrasing a bit but she said "Mr. Mayor, you are not a king, and we are not your subjects". I don't think it could have been said any better. This brings to mind the decadent kings and leaders throughout history who took the tax money paid by hard working citizens and funneled it into their plush banquet halls and lavish life styles, thereby denying the communities of what was theirs and leaving them empty-handed. I don't think that 8 or 9 million dollars is a "drop in the bucket" - not even in the context in which it was described by the mayor's spokesperson. Stealing is stealing - no matter what. Kwame's charismatic ability to spin a great speech is only illusion, and beneath it is something much more troubling. Isn't there something in the bible that says "beware of false prophets". Detroit residents need to take control of the issue - each in their own way, using their voices, and knowing their rights. The last time I checked, this was still a democracy. Kwamee was supposed to serve you, not steal from you under the pretext of "executive privilege". It's time now. He needs to go.
