Council opposes mayor on grants to nonprofits
BY FREE PRESS STAFF • July 23, 2008
The Detroit City Council voted Tuesday to reject an attempt by Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to impose a different spending plan for grant money given to nonprofit groups doing work in the city than the one the council approved.

Kilpatrick and the council are disputing whether the executive or the legislative branch has the power to determine which groups receive funding and how much.
Kilpatrick vetoed the council's 2008-09 budget for nonprofits, and the council overrode his veto. But Kilpatrick imposed his spending plan anyway.
Tuesday's vote was 7-0.
Council President Pro Tem Monica Conyers was absent. Councilwoman Sheila Cockrel was present at the meeting, but not in the room during the vote. |

Another example of doing just what he wants to do!
Love the "Kilpatrick imposed his spending plan anyway."
That is the narcissist...and the vote 7-0...doesn't that say something??? Maybe he is losing ground but he is in that position to "impose." So controlling....shows he has no control if he has to impose. Why would she leave during the vote??? As others have stated...I also think mc is gone...gone...gone.
Anyone still have Kenyatta's email address? at their fingertips?
