Defense Team Manipulating Media?
(WXYZ) On the eve of the Mayor’s Preliminary hearing the Mayor’s legal team has gone back on their promise to "not try the case in the media." On March 24th Dan Webb, the Mayor’s attorney said "I told the Mayor we are not going to try this case in the press, I have never done that during my career, I truly believe the system works best when jurors are allowed to come into the courtroom without being blitzed with publicity for months ahead of time." Late Thursday the spokesman for the mayor’s legal team emailed an audio clip that they referred to as "evidence" to media outlets. The highly edited clip of Detective White’s radio traffic with a police dispatcher, presumably right after the alleged incident where the Mayor shoved an investigator who was attempting to serve legal papers. The 17-second audio clip indicates Detective White reported the incident to dispatchers as "assaulting a police officer." The snippet of the conversation can’t be verified, and is so heavily edited that it has no news value, and in an effort to not become a propaganda outlet for either side in this case, WXYZ.com will not post the clip at this time, when the entire radio conversation is released and readers can hear it in proper context WXYZ.com will post it. |
