    High Gas Prices

How are your routines or plans changing due to high gas prices?

    Re: High Gas Prices

Errands are planned and consolidated to one trip per week.  All unnecessary travel has been discontinued, i.e. just going to visit friends, go to the park or a show, or out to dinner.  Summer plans to travel have been cancelled.  It is just so hard to believe that simple greed is not the motivating factor behind the continued rise in fuel costs.

Heck yes! That and the price of insurance, we'll be back to the horse and buggy (provided that we can afford a horse) days.

I totally agree with dshowler.  Our plans for the summer have changed.  No weekend trips to Pt. Austin and no round trips to Frankenmuth.  Errands are definitely planned well in advance to make the most use out of the trip.  We'll be enjoying our home more this summer and catching up on some reading and crafts.

    Re: High Gas Prices

I have not gone up north to visit my family since December because the prices are too high.  I am currently looking for a new job since I am spending close to $100 per week just to drive to work...oh, I know good luck with finding a new job in this economy.  The gas prices have definitely impacted my life and my family activities.  But as far as work, I have to pay for this necessity just to work and go in debt paying for the necessity, what a cycle.

No driving except to work or school. No more visiting friends or family unless their very close to home. I combine errands and grocery shopping with my sister, switching weeks. it now costs 100.00 dollars a week now for gas.Try to find a job closer to home, but not much chance of that anymore.

    Re: High Gas Prices

We won't be doing any traveling this summer; staying at home all summer long! It's hard enough taking the kids to school and activities, now we have to worry about the gas prices and how high they'll be next time I fill up!

    Re: High Gas Prices

I see from the posts that people are making drastic changes without the facts.  Example: A round trip to Frankenmuth from Detroit is about 180 miles.  If your car is getting about 25mpg the trip in gas would cost $14 at 2 dollars gal. $21 at 3 dollars per gallon and  $28 with gas costing 4 dollars.  The cost at the pump seems like alot however when broken down it is not that much.  A good idea would be to keep trips and vacatons within a certian radius and take advantage of the things we have in this State.  The best way to save gas costs is planning the day to day trips.

    Re: High Gas Prices

Gas prices are crazy!!!!! and we keep paying them. Hello where is our government, and why aren't we the people saying anything or protesting or something... people say what can we do? we can not pay. I understand every one has to go to work. So stop filling up on the weekends when they rip us off the most~!!!!! what ever happend to banning together as a nation, to put our foot down and say that is enough! How are gas prices changing my life I am poor because of all my money goes to gas, and food . I just graduated from MCB I am a skin care therapist, and I can't even afford to take the state board exam to get a better job. All our money gose to gas and food. we don't go anywhere, do anything that cost money. we just survive. I only hope my child's future is not as dim and with out hope as mine.

    *******************************************************

The cost of anything when broken down into parts isn't as large as the whole.

However, as we approach the $4/gal mark, the cost at the fuel pump has doubled for the trip to Frankenmuth. Since the cost of flour has also doubled, the biscuits or dumplings that you get with your chicken dinner, along with the increased price of foodstuffs due to transport costs (fuel) will raise the price of your family dinner. All those cute things at Bronner's will have to increase in price because they are trucked in. If you shop at the outlet mall, expect the prices to be higher there, too, for the same reason: increased fuel cost.

When you are out of work, as so many are right now, any increase in any necessity is too much.

    Re: High Gas Prices

I will probably have to let my parents use my car, as it gets better gas mileage than their mini-van.  I may also have to take my college classes online this fall if the prices get too much higher.

I will throw out a question - tonight there was a story about a station that raised it price to $3.75.  Apparenly they saw that someone was taking a picture of the sign's price.  They immediately came out and lowered it back to $3.69.

Can anyone find this for me and find a link??

    Re: High Gas Prices

"Not that much" is always a relative term when referring to any expense.  My trips and vacations will be in a specific radius - and that radius doesn't extend very far from my home.

    Re: High Gas Prices

All I do is drive to work and home. Like others I have to commute. I live in an area where taking a bus in is not an option, nor is it an option to car pool due to my work schedule. Usually I will stop and do shopping errands etc while in route between job and home. Last week I paid $4 dollars more for the same amount of gas used the week before.  This week it will cost me another $4 thats $8 dollars in two weeks for the same amount of gas. Beings my hrs have been cut and my employer isn't gonna give me a raise to cover the increase, it just means I eat less and buy less food etc. I do not eat out and I carry my lunch everyday. At the rate the prices are going it will become cheaper to stay home and collect unemployment. And the wonderful slap in the face will be when the oil companies disclose their record profits to the public. You see investors making money on the price of oil are the ones causing a lot of this. Bet they aren't complaining about pump prices. In fact I am sure they can afford to run their boats, planes etc. with no problem.

We travel to Port Austin too, and we are saddened by the gas prices.  Looks like Cheeseburger in Casevill is off this too.

    Re: High Gas Prices

Yes they are and I would imagine they are affecting just about everyone with the exception of the fortunate individuals that earn 6 figures.    What I want to know is when in the world is someone in government gonna begin to care about anybody but themselves.    This state is in the gutter and the economy is NOT going to improve.  Gas is high because the dollar is low!   What about lowering gas prices which I bet would stimulate the economy as people would actually have money to spend.  It's not rocket science here.  We just need government and the corporations to quit being so darn greedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
